    51years type 1

Congratulations and well-done! I've been type 1 for 53 years now and am still waiting on me medal from Diabetes UK. But yuo can also fill out a form to get the 50 year medal from Joslin Clinic in Boston, Mass. USA. I got mine quickly after filling ot the forms. There's information about it at...

    My experience with Creon

I'm a bit of an odd one - I'm a T1 who needs Creon. As far as I know anyway. I've been T1 for 53 years but, when I was having stomach problems a few years ago they did an MRI of my pancreas (weird seeing it after all these years) and discovered it had shrivelled. So on to Creon but I find...

Choosing a new pump and CGM

Funnily enough - this sentiment: " I am desperate to stop thinking about diabetes every hour of the day and night. You get tired and you can't get tired, you've got diabetes." is what I've found most difficult since switching to the 780g + Guardian 4 closed loop. I've had diabetes since I was 3...

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

I was diagnosed at age 3 in 1970 so I don't remember ever not having diabetes. It's frustrating and, although I believe in neither, I always think my karmic balance must be great so when I get reincarnated I get to be a rock star. :)

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

That's fair enough - what's normal? I used to (a very long time ago) counsel teenagers with Type 1. One person was already losing his eyesight and having serious kidney issues. He would say he just wants a normal life. He died when he was 21. To tell someone with such serious complications that...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

Feel like I'm coming way too late to this article, but I'll throw in my comment anyway. I've been type one for 53 years now. I agree with this except for point 2 - the goal is a normal life. I think that is a seriously unrealistic goal and puts a huge amount of pressure on folk who struggle with...

Will changing basal settings on the medtronic punp have an effect on my sugar?

Hi dian2007, not sure I'm the best person to try to help with this. I've been using the 780g with SmartGuard for a bit over a month now. When I first started using it, it was good but my BS would stay between 8 and 10 a lot of the time, which is a bit higher than I like. I would also...

    Fiasp

Everyone's experience of Fiasp is a bit different. I switched from Novorapid a year or so ago and found no real difference in how quick it works. The advice I was given at the time was to leave everything the same initially and then see what happens. Not sure if that advice works for you though...

Medtronic 780G Pump & Guardian 4 Sensor (Closed Loop System) Temp Target ?

You could use the Temp Target, which raises the target up to 8.3. Mostly used for sports, but it would work for wine too.

Medtronic 780G Pump & Guardian 4 Sensor (Closed Loop System) Temp Target ?

You may have the answers all ready (and I'm not sure I should be speaking here as I've only been using SmartGuard a few weeks). But I cam answer a few of your question. The 780 does let you use manual (meaning turning SmartGuard off). I did that for a few weeks and it's a good pump in itself...

Anyone on the Medtronic 780 (currently using Guardian 3) and can share some tips for making AutoMode work better

A late reply to this, but I had the same issue when I started on the SmartGuard. What helped me (sounds like you've done this anyway) is changing the target to 5.5 and lowering the Active insulin time to 2.5 hours instead of 3. It helped me - I usually wake up between 5.5 and 6.5 now. As with...

    Closed loop systems

I read about the US closed-loop system the other day. Not sure what the benefit is over my hybrid closed loop system (Medtronic 780g, Guardian 4). I put in the number of carbs in a meal rather than low, medium or high but, other than that, for the most part just let the pump work.

Graphic Content Epic bleeding from Cannula site anyone had this?

Been on a pump 32 years now (whoah!). It happens a couple times a year - sometimes I can tell it will happen, when the insertion site hurts a certain way. Sometimes I think it influences insulin absorption as well, as my bs’s can run a bit higher than normal.
