    Ramipril

I am on ramipril 1.25 mg, was meant to be on more but couldn't tolerate it. I don't think this was related to diabetes because this was several years before I was diagnosed. When I tried to take a higher dose I got dizziness. Not lightheaded low blood pressure sort of dizziness, but vertigo type...

Need to lose 80kg, starting tomorrow!

Cass - for the Indian, anything that is tikka or tandoori (ie cooked in the grill, dry - not chicken tikka masala) is absolutely fine - more or less zero carb. I love sizzling tandoori king prawns, with chicken tikka as a starter. Some people swear by daal (lentils) but unfortunately I find...

Need to lose 80kg, starting tomorrow!

I think 40 g carbs is very good, and I don't think I would strive for less just now. If you want a low carb alternative to milk, you could try unsweetened almond milk. It's carb content is negligible, and only 22 cal in 100ml. Make sure you get the unsweetened, though.

Need to lose 80kg, starting tomorrow!

Well done on your great start Cass! I also have a lot of weight to lose - I started at 135kg and I now weigh 113kg - that's after four months (coming up five) of low carbing. The weight loss was much quicker initially, it's slower now but I don't actually mind, because the reason it's slower is...

    Nothing happening - not fair!

Although to be fair, 130g carbs per day is not low carbing. I think to be able to not worry about calories, you have to be at 30g or under. Although you are absolutely right that people vary. You are unlucky to be not able to eat 1200 calories a day without gaining weight. I lose weight on...

My Doctor Has No Time For Me..

Fair enough. I suppose it depends what you are doing with that knowledge. Just knowing that you are spiking to a 10 is no help if you do not change what you are eating to prevent that. Personally, if I ate something that spiked my blood from 5mmol up to 10 mmol two hours later, I wouldn't eat it...

My Doctor Has No Time For Me..

So... thinking about it, testing is more to find out what I CAN have, rather than what I can't. Yes, after a meal with basically zero carbs in it, I would probably not bother to test at all. Just as I never bother testing after breakfast, because I only have a combination of two to three things...

My Doctor Has No Time For Me..

I think this is a glass half full/glass half empty matter. Yes, of course each meal is going to consist of various different foods. I personally try to keep the majority of the foods I eat as low carb as possible, and generally it is the overall effect of the meal that I am interested in. If I...

    I'm such an idiot

And here's one way of looking at it - if your HbA1C is very high, think what a big drop you'll be able to achieve for next time if you do all the right things, and how satisfying that will be :)

My Doctor Has No Time For Me..

I think your GPs attitude is appalling, in particular the idea that's testing your own blood will just confuse you. What a patronising thing to say! If my GP said that, I would definitely be looking to change practice straightaway, but then I must admit I am very lucky with my GP. I would...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn LittleWolf - you are a stronger woman than me if you are not even a TINY bit tempted to eat half a weetabix before you go (NOT advice, BTW!) Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at diagnosis 8% (11mmol)...

Whats everyones worst fall off the wagon?

I had a terrible fall off the wagon today but somehow seemed to have got away with it - had a "pulled pork" wrap for lunch, followed by - wait for it - a piece of Rocky Road cake. I didn't eat the wrap, just the pork inside, but it was ridiculously sweet, goodness knows how much sugar must have...

    chinese takeaway

I really sympathize about the rice: I *love* rice. Don't really bother with substitutes because I don't find anything really works. What you could maybe try is having a really tiny portion of rice, like a tablespoon. Sometimes when I do that it kids my brain that I'm having a normal amount lol...
