What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Nothing to eat or drink before my annual check up incl HbA1c this morning. Will be interesting to see what that is as I have been exercising more and lost some weight since giving up wine and dark chocolate. So what did I eat when getting home at around 10.30am? Stick of celery and some snack...

    Breakfast ideas?

Since giving up cereals topped with a spoonful or two with sugar many years ago I switched to 1 wholemeal toast with an egg, fried in olive oil and 1 slice with Sainsburys reduced sugar marmalade. Recently I gave up spreads made with seed oils (i.e. margarine) and now only use grass fed...

Type 1 Disposal of Free style libre 2 sensors and applicator

Agree and do everything you say. Apart from the packaging nothing is really recyclable and by the time the 'needle' is ready to be discarded it has lost its stiffness anyway.

    Counting carbs

No I dont. Much of the food I eat I prepare at home from fresh ingredients so it would entail weighing it out, knowing what carbohydrates/fibre it contains then doing a bit of mental arithmetic. Far too much unnecessary hassle, for me. On the occasion I'm buying packaged food I will sometimes...

    Over 40 statins as standard?

I had statins prescribed over 10 years ago, despite having normal cholesterol and I suspect they brought on T2 pre diabetes/diabetes earlier than if I had not started them. I stopped after a few months and began taking a cholesterol lowering yogurt drink every day which in any case is much more...

    Milk

I dont think there are any negatives to drinking milk in moderation. Having said that I would personally choose organic milk if I was drinking 2 pints every day but that will cost you more of course. Even better (in my opinion) is goats milk. Similar in price to organic cows milk (Asda, per...

Did you have good or bad experience with the Libre?

If they are working for the majority I somehow doubt the sensors. The ones not working get returned to Abbot who I presume test them but I dont get any feedback on that. I can only assume the needle is unable to penetrate deep enough to detect anything yet I am not overweight or obese and have...

Did you have good or bad experience with the Libre?

I have found these sensors almost totally unreliable. 50% I have had to return as they failed to read anything from the very beginning despite following the instructions exactly. The only positive thing I can say is that I always managed to get a free replacement from Abbot but even 50% of those...

    Freestyle Libre issues

Just for a bit of background info I was diagnosed type 2 about 10 years ago when I was 60. I managed the condition fairly well through diet and exercise, have had no problems but was put on Metformin around a year ago as the HbA1c was slipping a bit. Anyhow, I thought I would try the freestyle...

    Freestyle Libre questions

An update. Abbott kindly agreed to send a replacement even though I could not return the one that fell off. The replacement worked well and gave what I deemed to be accurate readings. (I checked it against my ordinary meter and got near identical result). So, after 2 weeks I ordered another and...

    Freestyle Libre questions

I had my first FL 4 days ago and was very pleased with how it was working. Put it on the arm as per the instructions and no problems - until tonight. Exercised, sweated a lot, changed T shirts and off it came. I didnt even realise until I got home so its somewhere on a changing room floor! Is it...

    Medical Records

It might depend on where you live. I dont know about the rest of the UK but there is a move to get ALL of London's surgeries fully online by 2015. That means not only accessing your medical records but making appointments and renewing subscriptions online. Have a look at the...

    Testosterone Therapy

I'm a T2 diet controlled on amlodipine and levothyroxide. I also take cialis occasionally for ED. I've been taking Testogel (privately) for over a year. There is a link between low testosterone (T) and diabetes although what comes first I think is debatable. However, I had a very low libido and...
