    Interesting Metformin chat with GP

I posted this as an update in the Success Stories and Testimonials forum, but some of it is worth pulling into here. I noticed my blood pressure and occasional finger prick readings were up a bit (as is my weight) so asked for a review test. HbA1c 41 (I really expected it to be higher)...

I found pea vile. Alpro roasted no added sugar almond is good, but mostly I have the no added sugar soya in my coffee.

Annual check up. As expected the HbA1c has crept up (to 40), so a good reminder to cut back the carbs a bit. Cholesterol 5.9 (up 1) HDL 1.4 LDL 3.7 Triglycerides 1.7

    Libre readings in remission.

No meter here. I'll discount it then.

    Libre readings in remission.

Interesting hypo period last night. Down to 2.2 (lowest I've ever seen via measurement). Even though I went to bed just after a late supper of bean and tuna salad after spending an hour in hot springs in the woods near here. Woke up with a cough and bunged up nose, so maybe it's a side effect...

    Libre readings in remission.

As I stopped testing when I was declared in remission last autumn I thought I might as well pay for a Libre and see how things stand now. At my favourite restaurant in Siena today, for the first time 4 years, they greeted me profusely like I'd not been away. I told Lella (the cook) I wanted a...

In other news. I'm in Siena. Breakfast was a cappuccino, croissant with prosciutto and ham then a fruit tartlet. Almost no effect! Well, a reasonable rise then fall.

Here's an update : Have been slowly increasing the carbs. Not really as a plan but just by not being strict. Weight has stabilised at 105kg or so. Thought I'd spring for a Libre to see what the blood sugar levels are up to nowadays. Interesting results. Take today : First spike after 8am...

Just had that annual review with the doctor. "Well I'm amazed. You're no longer a diabetic, in fact I would say you've not been one for the last year. I'm removing that active flag on your medical records and taking you off all the drugs". So that's the Metformin and blood pressure drugs gone...

Following on from https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/almost-in-remission-i-think.177857/#post-2328473 It's well over a year since I was last tested, so I chased the surgery and said I want an annual follow up. Bloods given last Thursday and I've an appointment at their Diabetes Clinic...

Half way through the trial now. It's very interesting. It mostly reads higher than finger prick tests. I'm also using diabox to poll the numbers every 5 minutes or so and that reads it lower too. After it settled down my levels are consistently between 4 and about 6.5. So today I decided to...

This is extremely useful. I think I will do a trial, having wondered about it for a while.

    Well I never...

This is undeniably true. Still on a downward drift though thank goodness. 130kg last March, 104kg this March. Though that's the easy "not really trying to lose weight" phase over, I think.
