    Testing in cold climates

Hi, I'm travelling to Iceland in January and a bit nervous about what the freezing cold climate will do to my medication - particularly my glucose meter which seems to struggle even in British November temperatures! Does anybody have any experience of travelling to cold climates with diabetes...

    bg meters accuracy??????

I've been told that by somebody else too but mine doesn't seem to have come with any such thing :? How odd. Anybody know if you can buy the little bottles of fluid separately?

    bg meters accuracy??????

I have just been wondering the same thing! Before dinner today I felt a bit odd so I checked my glucose levels and it said 5.8, didn't believe it because I felt like I was having a hypo so checked again about 2 minutes later and it said 5.0, then about 10 minutes later I checked again and it...

    Illness

So another confusing thing to keep us on our toes then! I spoke to my specialist yesterday and she reckons I may have the flu (ironically only a few weeks after getting the flu jab!) yesterday my sugar levels were higher than normal and today I've been having hypos all day  Nasty viruses...

    Anyone shed some light...? =)

I'm only very new to the forum and to diabetes but I thought I'd put my twopenneth in anyway.. If your friend is diabetic could they maybe test you (with a new needle of course) when you're feeling rubbish so you can see what's going on? As far as I'm aware (correct me if I'm wrong anyone!) if...

    Illness

Thanks for the reply Hana! I have always been a bit of a weakling when it comes to colds and the like so I suppose this is just another factor in that! I have been quite lucky where the sugar levels are concerned I think - high 7's after meals seems to be about as high as it gets and mostly in...

    Illness

This may be a stupid question but are there other ways illness affects diabetes other than it making your sugars rise? I've had cold for the last few days and it doesn't seem to have risen my sugar levels too much but I keep feeling like I'm having a hypo (shaking/hungry/weak/bad tempered and...

    Type 1 and a half?

Thankyou both for replying :D I have since spoken to the diabetes specialist at the hospital and she thinks the other nurse may have said it just because she'd recently taught her about it :? She was quite reassuring in my meeting with her last week and I feel a bit more clued up about...

    flu jab

I've had the same! I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago, first week of treatment seemed to be working swimmingly and then I had the jab 1 week ago and have had the horrible taste in my mouth, been sniffly, and generally feeling a bit rubbish ever since! Only difference is my blood sugar levels have gone...

    Type 1 and a half?

Hello, I'm a 21 year old Illustration student diagnosed 2 weeks ago and still haven't had a proper meeting with the diabetes specialist at the hospital yet (it's arranged for friday). I have been lurking here for a few days but felt I should probably introduce myself :D When I was diagnosed...
