The question I'm asking is how low is low carb for people? I understand this is going to vary for different people.

    Slim type 2

I don't find hunger is a problem or certainly not in the summer as I do feel full with what I'm eating so more food is a challenge. I've followed LCHF on and off for 8 years and although my HBAC drops so does my weight very quickly and therefore I increase my carbs so it's the "continuing to...

    Slim type 2

BMI is 20, so technically it's very good, but doesn't tell the whole story. Last time I saw a doctor about this I was told not to worry unless it dropped under 18.

My diet is similar to yours. Also cheese and fish - white and oily fish. Been at this for 8 years but still haven't solved the long term weight loss short of upping the carbs which puts me back on the naughty step.

    Slim type 2

Feel like I'm losing the battle with this condition at the moment. I got a telling off at my last review in May. If I cut back on the carbs and sugars then of course my HBAC is within limits. If I introduce more carbs then my HBAC goes above limit and I'm called back for a repeat HBAC. Yet...

    Jentadueto

Hello, Not posted on here for a long while. Had a bad review recently and my daily 4 x 500mg of Metformin has now been replaced with Jentadueto, twice a day. Anyone else had experience of Jentadueto? Still early days but seems to be supressing my appetite, although I weigh 11st so weary of...

Can work force you to use your holiday allowence for hospital appointments?

If you have a contract of employment then check what it says about disclosure of medical information. Quite often contracts include something about this. Nik

    Kidney function test

I got my GFR result back today and it was satisfactory with no further action required. I didnt do anything different for the repeat so all a bit odd really although as was explained to me today it is an estimate. Very relieved it was good news though. Nik

    Sweet potatoes

I'd never eaten sweet potato until I got diagnosed with diabetes and noticed them on the NHS GI food sheet that I was given at Desmond course. Now I eat them once or twice a week with no effect on my BS. I bake them in the oven and eat them with cold meat. :) Nik

    Kidney function test

Thanks very much for the links - looks like interesting sunday afternoon reading. I was diagnosed with a very high HBA1C so I assume my body has been dumping lots of sugar in my urine and this has eventually given way to a lowered GFR. I'm hoping that as my last HBA1C result was 5.8 it will...

    Kidney function test

I had my repeat GFR test at the end of last week - I await the result. DN said she was being ultra cautious with me. However, it has made me even more determined to keep my HBA1C within non-diabetic range. I do test BS now and again and I do have spikes. Nik

Steve Redgrave T2 and straight onto Insulin.

I'm thin and my GP and DN have put me in the "unusual" diabetes cateogory. Nik

    Kidney function test

What's surprised me is how quickly my GFR number has dropped and the fact my last three HBA1C results were 7.3, 6.3 and 5.8. I'm a skinny type 2 with excellent blood pressure. I'll do the retest and see where we go from there - probably more monitoring I would imagine. Nik

    Kidney function test

Thanks for the replies. I follow a low carb diet too. They've asked me to go back for a second test early in the New Year. Re protein: sounds like I might need a kidney friendly diet too. Nik
