    Optium Xceed

Thanks, satindoll. I actually have two Xceeds, both as backup to the OneTouch Ultra 2 for which I get strips prescribed (have to pay for the Abbott ones). An update now. I had been trying the Agamatrix Wavesense Jazz which is the meter 'they' want us all to use. I haven't seen a good word said...

    Optium Xceed

HI,qrp back after quite a while and still using Xceed as formerly. Apparently, CCGs are mandating that GPs prescribe cheaper meters and strips, which, here, means the Wavesense Jazz. Looks a bit cheapo but it does the biz ok and I'm impressed with the many tagging options e.g. bedtime etc...

    Spiraling out of control

Hello again, letteyc. You,ve been quick off the mark, I see! It pays to be proactive with your own diabetes care as the knowledge of the healthcare professionals can be very patchy: also, it's a tricky condition to 'tame'. Bernstein lays it all out emphatically but many seem to find his diet...

    Spiraling out of control

Hi, letteyec. I hesitated to say anything as you're getting lots of great advice from the previous posters, however, I was DKA on arrival at hospital and it was taken very seriously indeed. I was put on a drip to rehydrate me so what you were being urged to do ie go to A&E was sound advice. All...

What blood glucose monitor do you use?

Nexus, you are happy with the convenience of your Accucheck Compact Plus and also because quote it's accurate unquote. How do you know? How do you check it? All the meters have to get within laid down accuracy set by medical authorities and it's quite a wide range as everyone knows after...

What blood glucose monitor do you use?

Isthatso, I've asked the same question as you previously, with the same answers from the forum gurus. I asked the consultant about this and he said to use the meter that consistently gives the lower readings. Presumably this is to avoid going below 4mmol when your meter says that you're above eg...

    night time hypos

Kegstore, your post prompts me to add that the wrist alarm I'm using has a vibrator (as well as a bleeper) and that's the thing that wakes me. I guess it would wake most people. qrp

    night time hypos

Hi, Curleous, and sympathies to you! Lots of us get this problem. Three comments. One: juggling the basal did it for me with a split dose - 70% at breakfast, 30% at lunch. Levemir doesn't really last a full 24 hrs so the second dose tops it up through the night when the first dose is weakening...

What do you want from a meter

Fuji, the best jokes have a grain or two of truth in them! Tiny bit off topic but I've worked up a recipe for bread that's 4 carbs per 30 gm slice so it's nearly 25% of the carbs of regular bread and so, in turn, about twice the carbs of Fergus' bread. And his must be the lowest around. So a...

What do you want from a meter

Fair enough, Fuji, and, yes, it's time to move on. Thank you for your restrained post. It has, actually, been useful, to me at least, and I see the validity of your example to most people's situation. Newbies do tend to get swept up into a numbers game, though, don't they? I mean, the GPs, DSNs...

What do you want from a meter

There is a differerence between not saying you don't want a more accurate meter and stating that you do - positively - want one. Fair enough, stretching it a bit semantically perhaps but one is passive and the other assertive, proactive etc. One mind-set leads to inaction, the other, not. All...

What do you want from a meter

Ceedy, join the happy band of those who would like a meter that tells the truth a bit better than they do. You can see from the responses from "those in the know" that ain't going to happen any time soon. For what it's worth, I was told by consultant to use the one that gave lowest readings - an...

What do you want from a meter

Cugila, I have seen a good many of your posts and the info looks well-researched, credible and trustworthy. I don't have an issue with that. But I must reply to the remark about descent to personal comment. You may not be aware of it, but your dealing of the points I, and Dave, had made about...

What do you want from a meter

Cugila, your replies on this topic leave me wondering. First, the 4-6mmol range, which you say is not very precise. On the contrary, it's very precise and means what it says ie fasting BG is to be within those limits. Similarly for the meal plus 2 hrs level (9mmol according to DiabetesUK cf...

What do you want from a meter

Dave, I'm on your side. It can't be rocket science to produce meters better than we've got and if we don't ask, we won't get. We don't do ourselves any favours by meek acceptance of the current status quo. Like everything else, meter technology will evolve so let's try and make it move in the...
