Libre - Self Funding & Some Questions

Hi all, I've decided until April to self fund the Libre which I managed to get hold of yesterday. Just have a few questions: 1. For people self funding, how do you go about not paying the VAT? I paid it yesterday as I didn't realise we shouldn't be paying it, so I'm going to ask Tesco if they...

Recycle / donate unopened and unused insulin pens?

I’m looking at doing this as I have a load of novorapid and levmir I don’t use. Would be good to know if anyone has anywhere else they can send it. I’m looking at the first clinic in Sierra Leone currently who have 5 type one patients in the entire country.

    Freestyle Libre

Hi guys, Like many of you, my CCG will not permit my GP to prescribe the Libre. I’ve today written to my local MP who may be able to put pressure on the CCG, worth a try anyway. I wondered if anyone has gone down the same route and been successful? Also, would it be worth others doing the...

Theresa May Misleading People Regarding Glucose Monitor

My local CCG (Brentwood & Basildon) will not give GP’s permission to prescribe the Freestyle Libre. I have written to my local MP, who happens to be Conservative, regarding the matter. Hoping he can put some pressure on. May I suggest others do the same?

    Carb eating - BBC News

Hi all Just been reading this on BBC. Quite interesting. I have been following a diet of no carbs for breakfast and lunch, and a small amount in the evening, and finding I am having regular hypos at night, thinking I was just becoming more sensitive to insulin as I lost weight - This may...

Shaking in the hands and when waking from sleep

Only that since I have been T1 (and not T2) I have reintroduced carbs. I have apparently been tested for Thyroid issues and no problems!

Shaking in the hands and when waking from sleep

Hi there, Yes when I test they are normally between the 6 - 16 range. It is a noticable difference when I go below 6 as that is into hypo feeling. I'm hoping this might possibly be where I have been between 15 - 25 for months and my body is readjusting to being normal. Thanks

Shaking in the hands and when waking from sleep

Hi guys, I am recently diagnosed with T1 and seem to be going through the normal rigmarole of getting a grasp of my symptoms and sugars. My current biggest concern is that I have tremors in my hands no matter what my blood sugar readings are, when waking from sleep this is applied to my entire...

Recently Diagnosed - Rapid Change In Insulin Sensitivity/Production

Hi guys, I was diagnosed with T1 roughly a month ago following a positive GAD Antibody test. I spent the first 3 weeks adjusting my ratios and eventually found a perfect 2.5u:10g carbs, with a supporting 26 units of Levimer per day. I found the Levimer was wearing off mid day so I split the...

    Problem with Novo Pen

For future potential issues could you get your doctor to prescribe the flexipens? I have a pack of 5 which I don't use but for times like going on holiday/trips and even day to day I carry a spare temp pen just in case I lose my pen or it breaks for example. Always worth a thought.

    Type 1 car insurance quotes.

Hi Noblehead, On the comparison sites if you put in you have a restricted 3 year license all of the quotes go up or they won't insure me, where as with no restriction listed they're fine. Not everyone seems to get with with DL as they can be expensive, but then again for me everyone else has...

    Morning hangover feeling

Hi! I'm sure I have exactly what you're having. In the past having a heavy night meant I was waking up early shaking and feeling rough as hell. The past 6 months I have been feeling like that every single morning and I was diagnosed with T1 roughly a month ago. I have been reading my bloods...

    Type 1 car insurance quotes.

Hi there, I have recently become T1 and I'm insured with Direct Line (have been for 7 years since passing my test). My renewal is upon me so I have looked on the various comparison sites and effectively not many people will insure me for under £1000. I have even downgraded my car since getting...
