"Best" things doctors have said to you

Long before I was diagnosed with T2, I went to the quack to review my prescription for thyroxine. quack...what can I do for you today? me...I need a prescription for my thyroid tablets quack...and why would I do that? me....because I'm hypothyroid and you've been prescribing them for the last...

30 day low carb meal plan download from diabetes.co.uk

I find the cookbooks from this site are a bit hit and miss. Certainly the instructions are not always good as someone already mentioned. I downloaded one ( not the 30 day one) and half the recipes said they served 2 people, but the ingredients were obviously for 4....4 chicken breasts or...

    Surprisingly little discussion about cinnamon?

I use cinnamon quite a lot, but just because I like it, it's my favourite flavour! So it goes on or in anything that I can. No idea though if I'm having too much or not enough for it make any difference! :)

    Type 1: Prescription fine

Oh dear....I hope they don't check up on me....I have/had one of those little cards since way before I was diagnosed T2, because of an underactive thyroid so for a very long time I've automatically ticked that box, but for the last two years I've been over 60 and didn't realise I didn't need to...

Type 2 and normal HbA1c with just diet/exercise

That's interesting....I've been trying to get back to grips with my diet as I was getting out of control, and the last time I was at the doc's she said I need to start on metformin....I don't want to if I can help it, so I've gone back to testing and eating low carb. But my result in the...

    Replacement for rice in curries

Quinoa works for me....I find it doesn't raise my BS at all. I add a little veg stock powder to the water when I cook it to give it a flavour of it's own, but it's fine as it is if you are using it to replace plain rice.

Excuses given why you shouldn't test

I know this is slightly off topic....I was given a meter when I was diagnosed along with some test strips. Having been reading up on this site and testing myself to see what was good for my levels I fairlyquickly requested a prescription for more strips. I was told I could only have a...

Safe artificial sweetener suggestions for diabetic lemonade

I noticed recently that Stevia now comes in a tablet form, handy for your tea or coffee. I don't think it's as sweet as Splenda or the others, and in the large mug that I use for breakfast I now have to have two, but I haven't noticed any aftertaste.

Nurse unable to draw blood - tips for tiny veins?

I always had trouble when I was a blood donor....they always take from your left arm if you are right handed, and for many many years I had to suffer the doctor poking and prodding and huge great yellow and purple bruises afterwards...then someone asked if anyone had tried the other arm....and...

Hummous, is it okay for type 2?

I've started using quinoa in place of cous couse and similar grains. It is quite high in carbs but it doesn't affect my blood sugar at all.

    Christmas meal out

I would say....go out and enjoy yourself. If you can choose your menu in advance, as is often the case with these sort of "dos" then make a sensible choice for your starter, nothing too bad for the main if it's turkey and veggies, as long as you don't eat too many roasties! Avoid the cranberry...

Just came in to have a moan....

Thanks guys...I knew you'd understand! Funnily enough while I was in the waiting room waiting for someone to get back to me a woman came in ranting about how she'd just picked up her prescription and her medication which she always has two of, to last two months, had been reduced to one without...

Just came in to have a moan....

I know you guys will understand my frustration, as we've all had dealings with GPs etc! So, how's this for NHS stupidness....my brother popped into the doc to pick up my repeat prescription, and was told that I was no longer on their list, as the local health authority had requested my...

Biscuits? I might not need them after all.

I haven't got any specifics to hand, but I would suggest a google search for low carb recipes if you want to make your own.. I regularly read 2 or 3 blogs devoted to low carb cookery and there is a wealth of ways make biscuits or cookies. Substituting ground almonds for the flour is one way, and...
