    travel with pump question

To put the cat amongst the pigeons - the xray machines at security emit less radiation than you will be subjected to on your flight. The bady scanners do not involve xray's or radiation of any kind (at Gatwick for sure) and the archway metal detectors are just huge magnets. A pump will never...

Accu check combo for 3 year old

Only just come across your post - how is your son getting on? My 3 year old daughter went onto the combo pump in March. She's doing really well on it. If you want to compare notes or discuss anything as we're in the same situation, I'm more than happy to help if I can. Are you using the d link...

Advice please! Should we go for the Combo or the Veo?

You are very lucky if your PCT funds CGM. Mine doesn't and it would cost £70 a week for me to fund it myself. I have attended an open everning for the Medtronic pump and they advised that the CGM is something worth doing every 6 months, but not every day. My daughter is 3 and was diagnosed...

Insulin & airport X ray machines

Insulin is exposed to more radiation during the flight than it is exposed to passing through the x-ray machine. Each scan emits less than 1/1,000 of the radiation given off in a standard chest X-ray, or the equivalent of two minutes of a high-altitude flight. Therefore, your insulin being left...

Cool packs for travelling with insulin

We're off on holiday in June and this is the first time I've had to think about the insulin. I'm after some suggestions/recommendation for a good cooler or system to keep the unused insulin cool enough and something to keep the insulin in use from overheating when we get to our destination...

Insulin & airport X ray machines

Sugar2 Where have you been told to take the pump off? We NEVER ask for pumps to be removed or any other medical equipment that is attached to the body. It's un necessary and insensitive to boot. If you are ever asked to remove your pump - REFUSE.

Insulin & airport X ray machines

As you would be wearing your pump - it wouldn't go through the x-ray anyway. There is a common misconception that the archway is an x-ray machine - it is just a magnet set to detect dense metals- ie; gun, knife, razor etc... Plenty of pregnant women refuse to go through as they say it will...

Insulin & airport X ray machines

The Xray machines in all airports emit less radiation than you will be exposed to on your flight. They are not at all like the xray you would get at a hospital or dentist. They will not in any way damage your insulin, pump (if you took it off), BM machine or test strips. After all...

    Injecting

The penmate is brilliant - worked wonders for my toddler. It works on the Novo Nordisk pens - you put the insulin cartridge in the penmate, then screw on the top of the novopen. Screw in a needle when you're ready to inject. There is a small square button on the top - to the side. When you...

    accu-chek "mobile"

I love the mobile - only used it for a week and its far easier than the Bayer Contour I was using. A lot less blood is needed too - which is a very big plus point for my daughter as she's only 2! Not sure on what software to get though - the smartpix or the 360*

    holiday

Hi All. To clarify a few things re the airport for you...(I work in airport security) The archway is a magnet - not an xray. It will not affect your pump, neither will your pump set the alarms off. Your mobile phone will though - so take it out of your pocket! There are two different alarms -...

Newly diagnosed toddler - refuses to eat

Appetite is definitely back. Consultant had reduced her insulin doses and this seems to have had an improvement too. Fingers crossed, we've now cracked it!

    MedicAlert bracelets?

Where have you got yours from? Charlotte is only 2 and it's proving difficult to get a bracelet for her. My mum bough her one from www.universalmedicalid.com It's ok, but the disc is too long for her wrist and the nylon is rough on her skin. I've looked at the velcro ones from...

Newly diagnosed toddler - refuses to eat

Thanks for your replies everyone. Fingers crossed, its just been a glitch as she ate like a pig today! Everything is confusing and contradictory at the moment. Charlotte is on a sliding scale - they do not want us to count carbs and calculate her insulin until she has had her "honeymoon...
