    Swimming and keeping set attached!

Hi folks, Having a bit of an issue with my infusion set coming out whilst swimming. The pump is obviously disconnected whilst I'm in the water but of course I'm left with the cannula stuck to the infusion site, is there any product people use which keeps the cannula fairly secure whilst...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

When you write to your MP's ask them to make all prescriptions free like the SNP did up here, that way you don't need an exemption as everybody gets free healthcare. It might mean they have ot stop going to war with everyone though so I doubt you'll have much success, but good luck!

    Flu Jab

The only reason you shouldn't get it is if you're allergic to eggs or if you actually want to get the flu. You may get folk saying it's useless and it won't protect you against flu, that's true, there's a 1 in 5 chance it may not protect you against this years strain of flu if it's mutated...

    Pizza....the enemy!!

This isn't a diet forum, it's a diabetes forum, type 1 diabetics can eat whatever the hell they want, just because you take your diet extremely seriously doesn't mean to say everyone has to. I'm sure that all of us being type 1 take extra care with our diet etc, but saying people should quit...

    Low carb high ketones confusion!

As Totto said above, ketones are a by-product of fat burning and a reading of 2 wouldn't be considered a huge worry, (from a purely personal standpoint I wouldn't want ketones that high), but alas it can be dangerous for a type 1 diabetic, which is why I think I'm right in saying diets such as...

    Low carb high ketones confusion!

The part I've quoted seems a bit dangerous to me, it's NEVER ok to have high ketones (high ketones is obviously subjective, your reading of 2 I wouldn't class as majorly worrying but certianly need bringing down, I think in DAFNE they consider anything under 3 as a "minor illness" when dealing...

    Novarapid and ratios

Yes, the cartridges (whether embedded or disposable) will be the same, it's just that the pen is capable of dosing half units. I was in your situation a while back where I really needed a half unit, what I did was err on the sid eof caution and round it down, then do a finger prick test a...

Swedish study on pumps v MDI

It seems to be widely accepted that if your control is full of highs and lows, and swings all about the place, it takes it's toll on your body. The stability and predictability the pump has provided would look to have done me the world of good in that respect.

Swedish study on pumps v MDI

I was given a pump as i had lost hypo awareness and it was thought that tighter control would hopefully give memy warnings back. Also, the idea is that long term they will save the NHS billions as long term complications reduce given how well people can manage their overall control. Now, the...

Swedish study on pumps v MDI

I would agree with this, for every 1 person that is fully committed on MDI you'll perhaps get 3 or 4 who aren't. While on a pump, you have to be on the ball or it won't work! Plus you can micro manage certain things which does help in the fine tuning of management of the condition.

    Pizza....the enemy!!

I feel your pain Sheil, having tried everything to try and conquer pizza, the only thing which works is eating pizza with the thinnest base you can (thinner base, less complex carbs to process) and splitting your dose of fast acting. I'm on a pump so I can spread my dose over a couple of...

    Pump users

Did you change insulin when you went on the pump? Sure I heard someone had changed from Humalog to Novorapid and had the same kind of issue, I stayed on Humalog and haven't had any bother at all.

Don't think I like my pump

I'm assuming you know you can just unclip the device when you want? I think you're safe for up to an hour, for me personally I've never had an issue with the pump, i'm constantly tweaking the basal from time to time which is the biggest challenge, but apart from that I love my pump!
