been a hell of a year

Hi there This is perfectly normal, especially given the horrid time you have had. We all have slumps and given that you have a wedding coming up your emotions must be all over the place. I have only been at this for just over a year and am alright most of the time but will have a day where my...

    DAFNE

I am sure you will find it useful. They will cover your background and mealtime doses - as sarahw says they start you at 1 to 10 and then tweak, you may need different ratios at different times of the day. I found mine very helpful - it also give you confidence to try changing things if you...

Type 1 Diabetic With NEW Tattoo

Hi Sugarybibs I don't think you are ever too old for a tat. I got mine when I was 38 after having wanted one ever since I could remember. When I did go my mum came and got one too - it turned out she had always wanted one too and she was 65! Then my american aunt came to visit and she saw ours...

    Sweet dreams

No I don't think so - I think my hubby would have noticed. :? I have been T1 for a year and only started having night hypos last week - a combination of new diet and evening aerobics class. I was 2.9 the first one and the other ones were in the 3's with which I have just woken up in my natural...

Just been told I should only test twice a day.

That is amazing  , I wouldn't have been surprised if you were type 2 and they always have trouble but a type 1 is expected to test, how else do you ensure you are taking the correct amount of insulin?

    Ill!!!

as above, follow the sick day rules - lots of testing and GO HOME AND REST! :D Hope you feel better soon! Lou

Just been told I should only test twice a day.

Hi Your profile says you are type 1 if this is the case you will need to test more often. I test before every meal so I can dose adjust as per my DAFNE course intructions- before bed and then before / during exercise and during hypos etc. My repeat currently has 200 (4 x 50) strips but I am...

has any type 1 ever managed to lose weight while on Insulin

Thanks Phoenix! The thing I would say is that with the classes they do an exercise class with it, they can vary - mine is aerobic (dancey) with a bit of mat work, others in my area do salsa. Also going each week and being weighed is a good incentive to keep at it (I know from my past...

    Sweet dreams

I had been alright and rarely remembered my dreams until 2 weeks ago when I had my first night hypo. I dropped low and everything seems very vivid and frantic until my body wakes me up. One I had the other night gave me a headache all day because I had been so stressed in the dream and I...

    I Feel Pathetic.

Dynamite You are far from pathetic and the fact that you are posting on here shows that you are concerned and wanting to get this right. Your parents should be proud of this. I am sure they are only being hard on you because they love you and are worried about you, I know my mum worries and I...

    Progress since my 'wake-up call'...

Well done on getting sorted, the DAFNE will help you get a tighter control - I found it really useful and informative. It also helps to meet others and learn from their experiences and realise that you are not alone! Keep up the good work - you should be very proud of yourself! :D Louise

has any type 1 ever managed to lose weight while on Insulin

Rosemary conley update - 3lbs lost in first week - that includes a weekend at my nan's and having to treat 3 overnight hypos (a new experience for me but I am sure as my weight and diet changes my insulin needs will also) So all good and diet has been easy on the whole, already counting carbs...

has any type 1 ever managed to lose weight while on Insulin

I have to say DANFE classes differ depending on where you are. Mine was split so 4 days (every friday) over 4 weeks so we could keep food and exercise diaries and refl;ect on any ratio / background dose changes from the previous weeks. We then had a review after 3 months and are due to have...
