    New abbott meter??

There are a few devices being developed at the moment that don't require a finger prick but unfortunately, I've not seen any yet that are suitable for a T1 due to the lag time between the measured result and the actual BG level. The best noninvasive device I've seen so far had a lag of about an...

Strange and sudden hypo caused by basal insulin?

There are still some fine veins around the subcutaneous injection sites (as you'll possibly know from catching one and bleeding / bruising now and again). If you got really unlucky and caught one and injected straight into the vein, the insulin would kick in very quickly. It'd be spectacularly...

    Carbs for type 1

Very much so! Like I said, what works for one person may well not work for another but things like carb counting are pretty much useful for everyone. One thing that I have found though is that exercise makes a huge difference to my ability to control my BG levels. You've got to be very careful...

    Carbs for type 1

As with many such things, I don't think there is a 'right' answer other than what works for you. You'll see from other posts that there are a lot of opinions on all sides. I was diagnosed T1 about 15 months ago and while I've made a few adjustments to my diet, I'm pretty much eating as I did...

LOW CARB, LOW CARB, LOW CARB

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear, I was looking for what research / published journal articles you had seen that supported what you'd stated. I seem to be getting on fine eating pretty much what I always have (cake, pizza etc.) and I'm managing very good BG control so I was interested in studies...

LOW CARB, LOW CARB, LOW CARB

Please can you explain on what you are basing that opinion?

    Monitoring

I had similar frustrations at first. Not really anything I can say about the pain (we're pretty much stuck with that I'm afraid) though not every meter has the same size lancet and that can have an impact. Have you seen / tried the Accu-chek Mobile (Roche). I went through a few monitors before...

Potential issue with batch of Novorapid cartridges

I've had a similar issue in the past though not with the same batch and dumped my cartridges just in case. I'm also in the honeymoon period and with my basal doses changing, it can look like the rapid dose just isn't working (at least for me). There's been nothing through from the MHRA on...

    Type 1's from Leicester

I did wonder if there were any other T1's around Leicester. From the way the hospital goes on, they're clearly much more familiar with T2's. Back on topic though, I'm another T1 from the Leicester area. Been diagnosed for about 18 months

    Accu-chek combo pump

It's actually a requirement when they find any fault with a medical device. It is partly to cover their backs but the main purpose is to make sure users are safe. As it's a relatively specific set of circumstances required to get the fault, they notify users; if it'd been more serious, they...

Really high would you do more insulin?

You need to work out how much one unit of bolus will typically drop your BG. For me it's quite an important bit of info (as much as insulin to carb ratio) and I find it particularly important when I get a random high result or I'm ill as it lets me work out how much more to inject.

WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE NORMAL BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

Re: WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE NORMAL BLOOD SUAGR LEVELS My last A1C was 5.8 and I got told (by my endocrinologist) that this was within the non-diabetic range and I was controlling it too much! Typical story of worrying about too many hypos and suggesting I might want to 'back off a little'...
