Hello Ross, welcome to the forum. Your current eyesight problems are likely to be temporary and due to you having to adjust to insulin. Talk to your diabetes specialist nurse as well about this, but hopefully these issues will settle down soon.

How are ur BS readings? Assuming u havent got a handle on ur BS yet as ur newly diagnosed. High BS (hyperglycemia) causes temporary blurring;

I've been a type 1 for 20 yrs. I'm short sighted (wear contacts), my vision hasn't deteriorated/worsened significantly in the last 20 yrs.

I went to the opticians yesterday for an annual checkup, the optometrist photographed my eyes and showed me the photos ..They were comparable to a non diabetic (no signs of any backround retinopathy, etc).

BS are very tightly correlated to retinopathy progession...so keeping ur blood sugaes optimal is paramount.

Hello Ross, yes I've been getting blurred vision since I started my medication. Been told that it's because my levels are coming down and it should stop when I'm at a stable level. I'm finding it very disorientating at the moment and seem to have a constant headache. I'm determined not to let this beat me though

Did you have to argue with your optician to be allowed to use contacts? I've asked several times over the years and always been told "absolutely not" due to risk of infection...just curious...maybe I need to try another optician.

I had an eyetest today and through low carbing have managed to reduce my prescription by 0.5 in both eyes since Feb, so used the opportunity to ask again and was given a flat 'NO'...again. Think I might try another opticians...although mine are quite good to be fair.

Yes, very tiring I imagine, but as you stabilise your glucose levels, things will improve.

You can buy some cheap reading glasses to help you until your glucose levels come down to normal. It shouldn't affect your diabetic eye test.
