My life style was very unhealthy before diagnosis T2 and for a while afterward but for nearly 18 yrs. now after 2 strokes I Have controlled my diet and exercised. I do not agree with members who says You don't need exercise. My experience is that I lose more weight and have better control with exercise. I Have a very ancient exercise bike and it does not have all the modern bells and whistles so you cant set it so you are cycling uphill etc it is just a bike any change in speed is down to you. I had not done any exercise of note for 30 odd years so small steps 10mins 1st week then 15 then 20 up to 1 hr. don't rush took me 6- 8 weeks BS results build up over time weight loss stalls sometimes for weeks and weight stays he same for weeks then suddenly starts falling again
I also have week knees cycling helps them as does weight loss Now I am 77 and sometimes I neglect exercise because of my age and laziness I Do Notice effect on BS . Some say exercise does not work unless you work up a good swet they should live in Bangkok average daily temp 90 degrees most of the year I can sweat sitting down any movement like cleaning the filter on our pond I could generate my own electricity the rate it come off. Leisurely cycling for 10 mins the 2 mins as if you were Racing them back to leisurely and so on I try to do an hour a day early or late in the day when temps are cooler Low 80s

If You don't have a exercise bike look on the internet for you may find a second hand one

Totally agree with you mate.

Exercise is essential for overall diabetes management. Even light walking after each meal does help lower blood glucose levels.

I disagree it is essential. Desirable, yes. Essential, no; in my view.

I’m proof that it’s not essential, as I said further up the thread I can’t do any intensive exercise due to my arthritis. I do try to walk more than I used to, which has become easier as I’ve lost weight. (Though at the moment even that’s not happening after my foot op!) The LCHF diet has done the vast majority of my HbA1c improvement and weight loss.

Exercise has other benefits too! Mental health, maybe socialising, gives you more energy, improves concentration, helps relieve stress, emotional well-being, as well as helping with weight loss and lowering bg levels.

If You Cant you cant and that is an acceptable reason not to exercise but others who say exercise is not required only diet are in my opinion wrong. Exercise is an additional tool in our armoury it Lowers my B.S. you are not expected to be a Marathon Runner but exercise 10 mins at first maybe at 2 separate times a day and at you own pace after a week or so try o get to 15mins then 20.
Do Not Expect Immediate Results you do have to keep it up in my case for several weeks before I Noticed a real change also don't think if you exercise you can relax your diet Diet & Exercise are a team

Get an inflatable exercise ball the right height for your desk and substitute it for a chair?

Every half hour, stand up and do some stretching exercises

Do intermittent fasting during your lunch break and walk and do occasional squats instead while walking to fresh outside air and back

Stay hydrates and instead of lunch, have a low carb snack during morning and afternoon breaks

Put an exercise band in your work stuff and put in a couple three moves whenever you can. ex. You are conferencing on speakerphone, making only the rare comment. Double task with a coupla moves
makes me wonder if we need another Thingy at the bottom " Impractical" lol Having a desk Job does not mean you sit all day sitting in a chair you are frequently moving around getting up and down you get plenty of exercise working in an office if applicable use the stairs not the Elevator yes if you can take a brisk walk at lunch time if you use public transport walk to the next bus stop or station if you go buy car try parking a mile away if you can without cost so you have to walk. with a little imagination you can find many ways to exercise in your working day

At home, if I'm downstairs, I'll use a loo upstairs, and similarly, if I'm upstairs, I'll use a ground floor loo (except during the night, obviously!),
.

I also do this, and my husband thinks it's weird. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Hello.

Start with walking for 30 minutes, before work, at lunch time and or after work. If you can get to a gym/pool that is fantastic and you can do wonders, but it all starts with eating right, putting in only what you need to fuel your body.

I can notice the difference on the days when I cannot walk/cycle to work or have a lunchtime walk, it also makes me feel happier.
