It's good to know that there are specialised foods available for those of us condemned to a low carb lifestyle! ;)

Certainly as regards bread! Although I don't feel condemned 99% of the time because I also like a lot of dairy foods and can now eat as much as I like without any concerns, and I can enjoy a big fry up and no longer look at it as a heart attack on a plate!

Busy towns and cities, heavy traffic, noisy people, rubbishy televison or radio shows, rap music.

Have you looked on the diet doctor website, seriously do have a good ferret around on there, it will open your eyes.
I lost 2 and a half stone in just under 3 months, and like you was hungry all the time, but I am now more aware of how to deal with that, and my weight has stabilised at the 12 stone mark, and I have gone from Type 2 back into Pre Diabetic again, it is hard to begin with, there is so much temptation all around, but try getting your head and saliva glands to tune to the way of thinking , that it may look and smell great, but in reality it is just pure poison.
Well done to you so far, but don`t go mad on this program of diet, get a blood test meter and use it correctly to get to know what causes the most problems food wise.:)

Thanks for that, I hadn't seen the Burgen. I will give this a try as well, do you have a set daily goal for your carb intake?
Tesco do a high protein loaf which is 10g carbs per slice which is the one that I prefer. It’s quite filling so one slice loaded with filling is usually enough.

Hi, and thanks for your reply. Yes, I have seen the diet doctor website and I find it a really useful tool, the graphical representations of what constitute low carb food give you a good visual insight to what are low carb food options.

I do have a blood glucose testing meter that i have been using right from when I first started the diet, see my earlier posts.

Interesting! Do you know the brand name of this low carb bread? Or is it Tesco's own make?

Vogel also do a soya and linseed bread which is similar to the smaller Burgen loaf, I can get it in Waitrose or larger Sainsbury’s stores. Our local Tesco only do the large size Burgen which is over 120 calories per slice and though that will be fine when I’m maintaining weight I still have 18 lb to lose so sticking with the smaller slices for now.

Thanks for that, you say to keep to the same carbs and increase protein and fat, but and don't count calories. Surely though if I do this my carbs will go up because there are some carbs in everything we eat is there not? Could I occasionally have a wholemeal bread sandwich and some brown rice and pasta? Even maybe a roast potato with Christmas dinner! Or am I deluding myself?
I've worked out that I can have a small half slice of my husband's sourdough rye or spelt bread once or maybe twice a day if I don't have any other obvious carbs. On days where I have the bread mid morning and s roast potato with my pork belly later, and maybe a raspberry smoothie or raspberries and cream all in one day, then I think I'm overdoing it. Rice and pasta, even just 1/2 a cup cooked gives me prohibitive spikes so I use my husband's sourdough with the mince/tomato pasta sauce, and try not to eat rice very often at all. At some point I'll stop with all carbs if I can't bringy fasting BG lower than it's been recently. But I agree with the others who said to enjoy all the eggs, meat, fish, cream, yoghurt, cheese and veggies (non starchy) till you feel satisfied. The carb cravings do seem to subside slowly if you are not starving yourself and then you'll just have to detach emotionally from your relationship with carbs that keeps you thinking about them. Carbs are more-ish and addictive and not half as satisying in small quantities as the other stuff so you have to break away from them so you don't get tempted to overeat on them again. Once your tummy is full on the fats and proteins it really does become easier.
