Banting and Best Fun Facts

interesting isn't it that in order to get insulin in the states you first have to pay a fortune.

Couple of things going on there. One is that you're probably not actually getting insulin, you're getting a modified form of it which may still be covered by a patent (though I know Lantus is past that, hence Toujeo coming along). Actrapid = human, novorapid = modified for example. And making the insulin isn't entirely trivial, it's not like making meth :-) The biggie of course is the somewhat dysfunctional US medical system :-(

Sorry I know it’s meant to be fun but this fact saddens me immensely when you realise how much the system has been manipulated for profit in the US:

7. Banting sold the insulin patent for $1
Banting refused to add his name to the insulin patent because he found it unethical for a doctor to benefit from a discovery that saved lives. His colleagues, James Collip and Charles Best, eventually sold the insulin patent for a symbolic dollar to the University of Toronto.

I understand @Juicyj , but I have been thinking about the dog, because of a lovely dog who comes on the SEN School escort mini bus and the children love her.
