Hi i was type 2 but on insulin I had been vomiting not able to keep any food down and following doctors advice I had stopped taking apidra meal time insulin so then as I was saying I'd been vomiting I got very dizzy and had to grab my radiator to stop me falling out the window I don't remember what happened for that hour but the ambulance turned up I was already unconscious ànd taking away rushed straight to icu with ketones UK 10 and blood sugar off more than 40 and was told the next 72 hours were critical I had more fluids and put straight on pump having blood tests taking every hour blood gasses were off potassium levels and oxgyen levels so low to be honest with you I was in and out of conscious I don't really know much of what was going on after 72 hrs I was slowly on the mend and been transferred to diabetic ward slowly improving still them trying to get me to eat forcing me to have fortified drinks as was so sick well I was on the mend and they took me off DKA protocol 2 hours later came the crash again ketones shot straight back up again so few days later we up to Sunday now and if levels stay stable ànd insulin holds without the pump maybe discharge so Monday morning and doc rounds and I'm now a type 1 on novorapid 3 times a day Lantus background ozmepic once a week and metformin slow release and my blood sugars and I'm doing better my mobility is getting better it took its.toll and I'm very lucky to be alive and the doctors and nurses took amazing care of me and without them I wouldn't be alive today so my diabetic specialist nurse has me on little and often with the food and trying to balance the insulin as my tummy is still adjusting I can't get my around the fact I'm type 1 now and what this all means I'm so confused low carb and no diets are advised right now so today 5 days after been discharged from hospital from DKA I'm still at risk of a relapse but close monitoring and taking things easy I'm slowly getting stronger thank you all for listening x
