Can I become resistant to my insulin? I take Humalog 3 times a day before meals, but I seem to be taking more and more to keep my levels good! Could it be that I have been taking it for too long? I have been on Humalog for around 10 years with no real issues til now!

Hi. Are you controlling your carbs to some extent? What is your BMI. Even when on insulin many of us still have to control the carbs.

Yes, it is perfectly possible for insulin users to become resistant to it if the body feels it is being overloaded. The best way to help with this is to reduce the amount of insulin needed by reducing the carbs. Are you on fixed doses of your insulin?

I do count carbs, and vary the amount I take with what I am eating. I was on a ratio of 1unit of insulin to 10 grams of carbs, but I have had to put it up to 2:10 just recently.
