What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I’m a newbie to the insulin thing. I was advised to take a small 6 unit jab at night and it’s made a major improvement in my life. I haven’t fallen once since taking it and the general malaise , the dragging myself around feeling has all but gone

I like to keep informed about this stuff so have signed myself up to a four week insulin course on line. I’m also reading what I can , half way through “ think like a pancreas “

So last night I skipped my insulin as my glucose reading was into the fives at around four a.m I was woken by my phone bleeping a libre warning of low blood glucose at three point six. - I went to the loo and the glucose levels rapidly rose to over six. This morning they are just over seven and rising

Looks like this is a trickier thing than I was once thinking

you'll get used to it over time will become second nature imo :)

somethin to consider don't rely on the libre for low readings especially in bed (compression lows research that). still require to fingerprick. compression lows is what have to look out for alongside they can be around 10-15% out (alongside lag time). dehydrated can also make readings a little erratic. which insulin are you taking ? various have different onset times alonside active peak times.

delighted to hear your quality of life has had a significant improvement :) might want to update your treatment type from diet only alongside your signature. best wishes

I’ve been meaning to change my profile for a bit. Seems tricky just using the phone I’ll get onto a computer and update soon.

Thanks for the thought about compression causing the low. As the alarm woke me up I used the loo and the readings went right up so makes it a strong possibility

Re insulin. I’m using lantus . Apart from the very scary first time I’ve had no issues that are worth mentioning.

around 2-3 hours (depending on person) for it to reach 'peak' active time which should last approx 24 hours (can be shorter or indeed longer depending on person). its insulin glargine.

5.8 ( I think)….forgot to post earlier. Another unbelievable day here, sunny..actually hot (30) and just oh so nice for this time of year. Have an MRI scan of my broken pancreas tonight, looking forward to that (honest). Of course I’m hoping nothing has changed.
Spent the afternoon (after dog walk) learning how to use my apps for the Japan trip. Love the app that gives product information in English when a barcode is scanned for Japanese products!

5.3 libre. breakfast finished of a short walk now. yesterday managed 2500m (100 lengths) according to fitbit. swim again later today lot less than yesterday as wee bit stiff this morning. yesterdays libre graph looked great not any big spikes was a bit higher than normal for a good few hours think which happend to be around hour and half prior to mental health evaluation appt to see about help with blood draws. eval said hour appt estimated, took 2.5 hours. primary care team have said its community team that should be trying to assist. the community team recently re-refered back to dr surgery saying was primary care mental team to refer me to. Yeah lets go a merry dance around in circles whilst they work out which teams time/budget comes off. getting a call next week at 'somepoint' with outcome of which team will try assist. Main reason primary care mental health team have said should be community team is that they think it will take a lot longer than their 4 allocated slots to help with particular needs
