HBa1C results: slow and steady?

So, last week’s test shows I’ve dropped from 45 back in May to 42 now, so still just within the prediabetes reference range. Slow and steady wins the race I guess and I have lost nearly two stone since then .
Bugs me that they didn’t test my cholesterol levels though , so I’ve still got this sword of Damocles: statins do I /don’t I thing hanging over me.

Oh and checking my HBa1C test history going back to 2020, why were prediabetic levels not flagged up to me then?? Ok to be fair I didn’t have the NHS app . Did anyone have it back then? Or is it just that the NHS keeps changing the goalposts?!

I wouldn’t make any decision about statins without an up to date cholesterol result.
Oh and btw well done on your HbA1cand weight improvements.

Thanks! I’ll keep plugging away…
Does anybody know- in general is it routine to test non-HDL cholesterol levels at the same time as glucose levels. The hospital haven’t done this so presumably it wasn’t requested by the surgery either. (I’m going to check with them). As Rachox has said, I can’t make an informed decision about statins until I have updated cholesterol results.

My DSN at my GP practice usually does all the blood tests at the same time, so HBa1C, cholesterol, liver, kidney, urine, a couple of extra tests on my liver as I have a condition that isn’t connected to diabetes but can be affected by it, then I go back for all results, foot tests, weight etc a couple of weeks later

I’d contact your GP to see exactly what tests you’ve had & request any that you think are missing

Updating here: the drs got v back to me to explain that as my cholesterol levels weren’t dangerously high, they thought it best to wait until next spring to retest (ie a year after my initial bloods were taken) as otherwise they felt there might be the possibility that I’d be over medicalised. I’m quite happy to go along with that. The main thing is that I’ve got my 2bd HBa1C results: down from 45 to 42; not a huge drop over 5 months but my weight is down nearly two stone since I started along this path, so reassuring.

My only very slight concern at the moment is that I’m within 4lbs of my target weight, am officially out of the overweight category but can see the time will come when it’s really not advisable to lose any more yet I’ll still need to keep my blood sugars down. It’s a bit of a juggling act!
