Cgm sensor skin issues

Hi, my husband is type 1 and im type 2. This forum was so helpful to me when I was first diagnosed so I thought you may be able to help him.

He's been using the dexcom one sensor for over a year now, to start with it was fine, but now he gets really red skin patches when he replaces the sensor. Sometimes it looks infected. He changes sites often to let his skin heal but it's really getting him down.

He tried the libre sensor this week and it's come off early with another lovely red patch.

Any advice, tips or products he can try please?

There are a couple of barrier sprays available that may help, I know I get one of them on prescription cos if I use the infusion kits or sensors on my stomach it goes red as well.
See if your husband can talk to his diabetic nurse/doc and get one prescribed - I know I used to used Cavillon until it became a right pain to get hold of (it might be more available now, dunno), but now using one called LBF

i was advised to use moisturiser on the area's cocunut butter or simular a couple of days prior to inserting the new sensor and to make 100% sure using alcohol wipe thats its all washed off and dried fully, otherwise may not stay on properly. could try that alongside the above.

I clean the site and then use cavilon cream before I apply the sensor, sometimes two layers. I used to have all sorts of problems with this but recently it's got much better, so please don't despair.

It could be the adhesive rather than the sensor itself. I’ve had similar issues, and my skin gets quite rashy. I use Skin Glu and Skin Glee to help with that, and they’ve made a big difference. I also use overpatches from 'not just a patch', and the Air ones are my go-to, as they seem a lot kinder on my skin. Might be worth a try for him if he’s struggling with the same thing.
