Empagliflozin - Anyone taking or suggested to take

My last Diabetic review has pushed to take Empagliflozin, anyone on or been suggested to take? Seems you have to be careful if taking blood pressure meds , also some side effects possible. Its on top of existing meds not replacing.
 
I've been on Empagliflozin for a couple of years now. No side effects and have not noticed any problems with blood pressure. But I'm not entirely sure if it does anything for my blood sugar.
 
I been on it for 4 month's side affects for me thrush.
 
FYI: On 25th July 2024 I wrote

"If you are on Dapagliflozin and its making you thrushy - ask to switch to Empagliflozin I found it to be much better. No problems with this drug for me.
Usually the GP will prescribe 25mg daily ( as I was told this is the usual dose, but it's effectiveness is stronger than Dapagliflozin ( I discovered from the research that I did ) so I asked instead for for 10mg daily. It worked a treat, no horrible side effects."

I was taking this before I think I was put on insulin ?... and I was relying on meds and diet to try get my levels good.
This was all before my GP realised actually "you are probably a type 1 rather than a type 2 !".......

I'm not on Empagliflozin any more. ( I rely on insulin instead - as I'm now confirmed as a T1 )

I have been on it for a year or two. No side effects.

This was suggested to my (now 95) year old T2 father last year. He has had heart issues. At the time he declined because he was still drinking a lot of alcohol and was/is low carbing.

But he does miss carbs, particularly bread, which my brother has reintroduced (in small quantities). As my dad has now almost completely stopped drinking alcohol and drinks more fluids we will probably suggest he tries the flozin if it turns out that he needs the extra help next hba1c.

My takeaway from my research was that you need to drink enough fluids to avoid complications.... most commonly thrush???

Here is an odd thing… my cardiologist wanted me to take it because it can reduce blood pressure.. it is basically a water table will make you pee more and lose any retained water, which is why Bp can lower, hence needing to be careful with Bp meds

Another side effect can be urinary infection as you pee out excess sugars

There is also a risk of DKA even and normal blood glucose levels

I was not given it when they realised I was t1 not t2
