Hi, ive had Type 2 for several years now. Eye screening 2 years ago was background retinopathy no treatment needed.

I ve had my latest test results which are:
RH2 (both eyes) - preproliferative retinopathy
M1 maculopathy (both eyes)

Ive had a letter come through saying im being reffered to Wye Valley Trust Eye Hospital in Hereford

The letter says please odnt be alarmed, although theres a higher risk that your vision could eventually be affected, its not too late to stop it getting worse if you manage your Type 2 well - obviously im of course panicking!!

My last blood sugar check with docs showed my blood sugars nearly halved and went back into very close to normal.

So my question is really, has anyone been diagnosed with the same?..how were you treated? etc

Many thanks in advance
Paul

I can understand why you are panicking but there is a reason we get annual eye checks as diabetics, and it's because problems get caught and monitored and treated (if necessary) before you run into trouble. Diabetic eye specialists have had decades to work out how to preserve our vision and the results have got very much better as a result.

My last blood sugar check with docs showed my blood sugars nearly halved and went back into very close to normal.

Congratulations. In the long term this will benefit both your eyes and the rest of your body. In the short term though, eyes supposedly don't like rapid changes in blood sugar (as told to me years ago by my eye specialist), so this may be a contributory factor to your (hopefuly temporary) issues.

As someone who has had on again off again background retinopathy for decades I work on keeping the best control I can (with very variable results in the past though better now I have a cgm and an insulin pump) and always always attending my diabetic eye checks.

Tagging @Jaylee who I believe had this over a decade and is still working and driving fine now....

Thanks for the tag @EllieM . Had “diabetic maculopathy (as they call it for me now…) on. And off for over a decade? Spent 7 years not needing treatment.
I’m T1 & tightened up my BGs like a bull at a gate. Then had this..

With the treatment I had. I will never be a sniper. But I still retain my legal privilege to drive..
