How often do you snack during the day to manage diabetes?

Hi @Toxodon ,

Welcome to the forum.

It probably depends on a few factors?
The main one being is my basal insulin dose correct.. Which would lower the need to have to snack or treat hypos..

How are you managing your average days..?

I do not snack to manage my diabetes. I snack because I want to and bolus accordingly.
If you need to snack it suggests your insulin dose (probably basal) is too high.

Since diagnosis i’ve cut my snacking right down (can’t be assed to bolus for it unless I REALLY want it).

I rarely have to snack because of my diabetes - only when i’ve made a mistake miscalculating carbs or unplanned extra activity.

I am thankful i’ve passed the days of fixed doses and the nurses advice of not going to bed under 7 and having to eat when I didn’t want to. (I’ll now go to bed on anything that still in target).

I was told at diagnosis to avoid snacking because when on the right insulin Duse they said I shouldn’t need to but I sometimes do. I feel it makes me feel more safe if there’s a longer gap between marks or if lrvtke ate on the lower end but not hypo.

I’ve only started using ratios on July. I hated fixed doses

Ratios are much much better than fixed doses in my opinion. (I was on fixed doses for the first twelve years of T1 and still remember being given an insulin pen and my first glucometer and being told that multiple daily injections would make my life easier, even though I'd be injecting more often. ) Slightly surprised to hear that you were put on fixed doses at all, but given your other health conditions and the fact that you are relatively newly diagnosed, I am guessing that they wanted to try to get your overall dosage right before introducing ratios....

Now I'm on a pump I only snack when I feel like it (not because of the T1), with very occasional glucose tablets if I go low and the pump isn't going to get me out of it on its own. (My pump will stop insulin if it thinks I'll go hypo but if my on board insulin is too high then sometimes I need glucose as well.)
