My husband fell off a ladder almost exactly a year ago; broke his nose and was very badly bruised and shocked. Poor man. At the time, I was convalescing from a fairly serious eye operation, and couldn't really look after him. We had been due to go down to my then 97-year-old mother's to keep her company while my sister (her primary carer) was away; in the end, it was she who had to look after us! Today, we went down to our church as we wanted to hang a picture we'd bought for the new community room, and that involved his going up a ladder, which I don't want him to do any more, but it was a (very rickety) stepladder and I held on to it while he was on the top step, so all was well. But not pleasant!
