"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I
@jpscloud i have talked to my GP and he has promised to forward the results as soon as he gets them. I have also phoned the consultant’s secretary. The hold up seems to be radiology who are “very busy”. So frustrating!
I'd, gently and politely, enquire of radiology. Ask switchboard to put you through. They'll probably be surprised but might just work. Sometimes approaching from a different angle gets results

Years ago I was referred to another hospital "urgently" but nothing was forthcoming. Original department said they'd requested letter to be sent but new hospital said they'd not received one. Eventually I found a medical secretary's typing pool, who had a 6 month backlog and were sending letters in strict order, no matter how urgent the referral! I then found a "how are we doing" link straight to Chief Exec, who first denied typing pool had a backlog, but on further investigation found it to be true. I had my letter within the week.
Always polite, always "just enquiring", always thank the person for the information but never take a "no" as the end of the trail

Quite often works with Councils too. Hope it works for you

Very dreary day here in London. Had to go for a blood test, and although I got my step count in (including nipping out to the dry cleaners with my funeral coat and another one that I like, but haven't worn for ages), I didn't really fancy going up to Oxford Street and walking down the newly-pedestrianised area. Maybe tomorrow or Thursday - Thursday is Poppy Day, and we need to buy our poppies for this year, especially as I am preaching on Remembrance Day again.

I actually managed a successful oat/chia flatbread/pancake thing for breakfast this morning - still needs a tweak or so, but once I have them down pat, I can double or triple the quantities and make several, as I gather they keep in the fridge for several days. Anyway I ate it with a small fry-up - egg, tomato and mushrooms. Delicious!

Lunch was the end of the soup and salad, plus a couple of bits of cheese.

I am completely devoid of ideas for supper - I think I'll do a vegetable stew, probably adding beans for protein. To be followed, I expect, by Lidl's creme caramel. I think I have some pork belly in the freezer which I'll get out and make a ragu in the slow cooker tomorrow, so as both of those will do us twice, that's meals sorted until Friday! I hope. Actually, the grandsons might be coming over on Thursday, in which case we'll eat out, which means we won't want a large meal in the evening.... and maybe I'll investigate the Too Good to Go bags from our local vegan restaurant - their food is utterly delicious! We shall see. I love cooking, but planning meals is the pits, and I find my plans usually get derailed somewhere along the line.

UPDATE: We had the vegetable stew with a small jacket potato with butter. It was very good, but I thought the aubergine a little undercooked. There is masses left, will do us at least once more, and maybe even twice, although I might make the remainder into soup instead. Anyway, to follow this I made those egg-and-banana pancakes that were doing the rounds on the Internet about ten years ago - just an egg and a banana which you blend together and then fry like a pancake, and that's it. We did put a little cream on ours, but no sugar or anything - doesn't need it. I remember making it for my grandsons and a friend of theirs when it was doing the rounds, and they put cinnamon on theirs, but I'm not just so fond of cinnamon, so didn't!

That pancake sounds great. What are the proportions of egg to banana?

The grater that I used to shred the courgette and carrot for my omelette didn't shred. Instead it produced very thin crinkled slices. I ended up with a large amount of vegetables including chopped onion and some apple so I fried it all in butter in the new titanium pan Neil bought for me and then added the last 3 eggs I had. There's enough left for another meal along with the too large amount of salad that I prepared as well.

Good idea, I might see if I can contact them directly as you suggest.

Monday is my Tesco shop day, all the usual low carb stuff, unsweetened coconut milk, veggies, bacon, eggs, cheese, diet drinks etc..My diet is always the same breakfast, two snacks then dinner. So dinner today bacon and feta frittata with runner beans and carrots.

Well, we picked a good weekend to go to the seaside NOT! Even the seagulls got blown away.
Luckily we were mostly inside at a dancing event. 14 hours exercise in 40 hours should have burned off some sugar.
Chose braised beef and a small ice cream the first night, then ham salad and a small ice cream the second. Breakfast both days was eggs and bacon. 1 lunch was a burger no bun and the second was an m&s best ever prawn sandwich - I left the bread.

Today started with a perfect avocado (yay :) ) and 2 scrambled eggs, cwc.
Early lunch of cheese on 2 lc slices heylo bread and yoghurt and walnuts and an lc hot chocolate and 2 slices ham
The dancing must have made me hungry belatedly.
Skipped dinner but did have a swig or 2 of double cream after a meeting

I am definitely finding I'm waking earlier since the clocks went back an hour but also struggling to stay awake in the evenings!
Dentists first thing this morning including my least favourite hygienist - I find her very thorough but it's painful at times!I
Not sure if I fancy an omelette to use up the leftovers with salad or a LC lasagne from freezer for dinner - will see how I feel after the dentist. Small breakfast planned of LC granola and lunch possibly cheese.

Breakfast was the rest of the omelette and salad from yesterday. Tea. (I didn't make any chips with my meal yesterday, so there were none left over)
2nd meal will be pan fried haddock with some peas. Probably some kind of potato. Maybe those chips.
I'm coming to the conclusion that I will have to eat something of a starchy-carb nature with my 2nd meal. Otherwise, I end up with a hypo half way through my 8 hour break from food or drink before my weight loss pill. It happened again last night - I had to have half a bottle of choc milk shake around 11.30pm which meant I couldn't take my pill this morning.

I phoned the MRI department this morning and they couldn’t/wouldn’t look into when I might expect my results. So I went back to the consultant’s secretary who said she’d email radiology to try to expedite my results. She said to ring back next week if I still haven’t heard anything. She sounded a bit more concerned than when I rang her before so fingers crossed

Porridge for breakfast, cheese with onion, lettuce and rocket for lunch and curry for tea with runner beans and cauliflower.

I had a little go at overgrown pyracantha and filled up the garden bin for tomorrow. Otherwise just a bit of a lazy day today!

Crossing my fingers and toes for you too.

One egg and one banana, made masses for both of us. Ordinary-sized banana. Your omelette sounds lush!

Don't know what happened last night, but supper really didn't last and I ended up having some nuts and raisins, and then, when they didn't hit the sides, had a hot-cross-bun with butter. It was delicious, but....

Breakfast this morning was "proper" Bircher muesli - grated apple, oatmeal, etc. I have come to the conclusion, though, that chia seeds AND grated apple are a fibre too many. I can't often be bothered to grate an apple, but am always glad when I do. Lunch was a cheese and onion slice, reduced in Lidl, with the end of the Greek salad. And a little chocolate nougat ice-cream. There were some nuts and raisins mid-afternoon (I'm going to put all the weight back on if I am not careful!), and supper was slow-cooked pork belly ragu with spaetzle and cauliflower, followed by a Lidl creme caramel. I don't think I'm going to succumb to the lure of either chocolate or nuts and raisins this evening!!!

Went swimming this morning, I was swimming over 1000 meters at the beginning of the summer but my GP put me on a new med for my neuropathy and it really knocked the stuffing out of me, so stopped going to the pool for a couple of months. Off the drug now and working my way back up, hit 500 meters today, so happy with that.
Dinner tonight was a lamb burger in a low carb bun with cheese, a smidge of rosemary jelly, side salad and mayo.

Lovely bright day today may manage to get some clearing up done in garden of the debris - mainly leaves and branches - that's arrived during the storms now the wind has settled down! Have others been influenced to build up their supplies by the recent campaign to do so? I'd imagine @Annb it's second nature to you because of your Island supplies always being vulnerable. We only have electric for cooking and didn't want not to be able to have a hot drink if there was a long power cut so have just purchased a Kelly Kettle which you can power with twigs, leaves etc sounds ingenious - I'll give it a try out in the garden when it arrives! I'm sure some reading on here will have tried one while camping. I didn't want to buy and store any camping gaz.
Planning on roasting some tomatoes for breakfast to go with a poached egg, some cheese for lunch and cod with veggies for dinner. I also need to start baking again - building up my low carb baked goods freezer supplies now that my freezer is clearer after our weekend family visit. Colin the Caterpillar - youngest sons birthday cake - which had to be frozen a few weeks ago when he was poorly, froze well but had lots of packaging and Colin needed almost a freezer drawer to himself! They also took the leftovers of Colin back home with them thankfully.

The only thing I don't have stored is water. I have had bottled water in the cupboard in the past and we've never had to use it. As a result, I've stopped buying it. Perhaps I should rethink that, with all the warnings.

Breakfast was a bowl of puffed spelt grains with milk and a banana. Tea.
2nd meal will be some soba noodles with a cheese and spinach sauce.

Today is going to be busy - flu and covid jabs this morning and a hospital appointment this afternoon. We'll see how well I last the pace.

Being unexpectedly vain, I don't like the black and grey eye patches I have, so I bought a pack of coloured ones from Amazon. Six in the pack but only two that I am comfortable with - the beige one and the light pink one - they are not so obvious. But why on earth, are they held on with black elastic? I have found, also on Amazon, some beige elastic which I will use to replace the black on these two eye patches. I don't really relish looking like some kind of pirate!

I bought a pack of six (I liked the turquoise one), and only used them a couple of days - I had also bought some patches that go over your actual glasses and block the lens, which I found much less uncomfortable. I have an eye test coming up a year after I got these new glasses after my cataract and other eye operations - I think I'm going to need a new prescription, but we shall see. I don't particularly like these frames any more, so it will be good to have new ones.

Meanwhile I had bircher muesli ("Swiss Breakfast" we used to call it when I was at school) for breakfast - no chia seeds this time and it was much nicer! Not so claggy. They're great in ordinary overnight oats, but not in bircher! Lunch was a small jacket potato filled half with cheese, half with hummus, with some salad and followed by a mini ice-lolly. Supper is going to be vegetable casserole from two days ago with jollof rice which has been in the freezer, and I might put some grated cheese on top as I don't think it had enough protein in it on Monday, as I was hungry later. Followed by yoghurt and mixed berry compote.

I have a small amount of bottled water stored, which I use and replace. I probably should store more, but I have some of those water purifying straws for real emergencies and I also keep butane cannisters and a little stove to boil water. I have a jackery power station, and a few small power banks that would keep the fridge and freezer on for a while, and power the phone and laptop. I need to invest in a hand crank radio, too.

Food wise (besides the freezer) I have quite a few tins, a few kilos of rice and dried beans, and lots of brassica leaves in the garden. The swedes and sprouts haven't done quite as well as I'd have liked this year but there are some, which will stay in place to be harvested over winter. There's a few carrots left too.

Kelly kettles are great @shelley262 I have used one in the past - really useful for emergencies and garden cuppas!

@Annb I hope you're not too sore after your jabs.

I had porridge for breakfast, Omelette for lunch and curry with runner beans for tea.

Getting further with my scan results. After my phone call yesterday, I now have an entry on my on line hospital results saying MRI spine pending til 11th Nov. It means the results are done but as a patient there is a 2 week delay. Hopefully my GP will get them sooner and he promised to contact me when he does.
Dinner today BBQ ribs with Brussels, broccoli and carrots.
