Hi all,
This is a bit of an embarrassing question but I have had this for ages. I am 6 stone overweight and have had diabetes for 30 years, my problem is I get very moist and sweaty down in my vagina, I do get thrush occasionally and my blood sugars do run higher than I would like, but is this normal ? I have to wear a pad daily it's horrible if not my pants are damp. Thank you xx

Hi Nicola,

I feel slightly awkward asking you more details in a public way, but I have no idea how to send private messages & am not even sure if I can. Is it excess discharge which is causing your problem, or is it excessive sweating in your groin area? The second would be made worse by being overweight, whereas the first wouldn't in itself have anything to do with your weight, although being overweight would then cause any moisture to be more likely to get trapped.
Excess discharge can be caused by some hormonal contraceptives, or by polyps on your cervix (harmless, can be diagnosed by a GP doing a pelvic exam & can be removed by gynaecology), or infections (need swabs to find out) or it might just be you.

i wonder if you wipe after pee?

I did not used to but since I have been wiping after peeing I find that panties stay dry a bit better and help keep thrush away.

it is generally normal for us to be pretty wet most of the time but check with your doctor if there are any medical issues to be addressed

hi, i used to get thrush when my blood sugars were high. my gp said it was blood sugar related. i am not overweight and since having better control i have not had thrush. maybe check with your gp for a different treatment.

Hi all thanks for answering. Yes I do wipe after I pee. It is just sweaty but with a small discharge which I.presume is from the thrush. I will try and get an appointment at ny GU clinic this week. Once again thanks xx

good morning,
yes, I also suffer similarly, have been told it is due to diabetes and given canestan cream, which does relieve, but it must never be applied to broken skin, NOR used for more than one week at a time, hope you soon feel better.

I know these posts are from ladies but I too had thrush when I was first diagnosed T2. I was told this was a common side effect and therefore used the canestan treatment.

So looks as though it is 'another' complaint that comes with being diabetic?

Yep it's certainly a diabetic complaint that affects men and women. The sugar in the urine helps the yeast to grow.

I got diagnosed with diabetes because of recurring infections as its so common for diabetics.

For Thrush give some Bacillus Coagulans a try. It's meant to be very good against fungi and yeasts. You could get some capsules and culture some and make a yoghurt and then use that for your problem.

If your blood glucose runs high and you are very overweight, thrush is a very likely result. If it makes you uncomfortable, you could arrange to see a doctor or a nurse specialising in this kind of problem. If you can get your blood sugar under control, you'll probably see an improvement.
It's worth trying a controlled carb diet, to normalise blood sugar and lose weight. I lost 3 stone that way easily, but now weightloss is very slow and i would like to lose another 2
Of course if you use insulin, you'll need to discuss diet with a HealthCare Professional.

I used to have frequent bouts of thrush when my blood glucose control was poor and after starting Insulin pump therapy last May I no longer suffer from it. I used to douche with red wine vinegar and water and I found this very effective for giving instant relief. You measure out 50% water and 50% red wine vinegar, I think it works because the vinegar matches the ph of the vagina. I would strongly recommend that you add water and not douche with neat vinegar like I did once because I could not sit down for a week.

I feel sorry for any poor soul who has thrush, it's very uncomfortable condition. I mean diabetes is a pain in the rear end alone without thrush!

I had " jock itch" a few months ago, which made me question my previous fasting glucose results.
Canestan fixed it...

Jock itch is bloody awful and really does have a most horrible smell. I shan't describe it but.... Do google it.

They actually recommend not to douche if you have thrush, as it clears out the helpful bacteria too. I've never had thrush or used canesten but I've heard that the dual action (oral and topical) stuff works wonders.

I have found the caneston dual treatment (a pesssary which you insert and a cream for the external itch) works really well. You can buy it from the chemists and if it works then it definitely was thrush, and if it doesn't then you know it's not thrush. Higher blood sugars can easily lead to fungal infections. Thrush usually feels quite uncomfortable and itchy, that's how I know I've got it, also there's a bit of thicker discharge usually.

Live plain yoghurt is very good for balancing bacteria. Eat it, and also apply it to the affected area. It sounds ridiculous but it does work!

It must be live and completely natural. Sheep's and goat's is very good.

Having high blood sugars!!!!!
I was also told, to use live yoghurt, by my Urologist on my last hospital appointment, and my blood sugars are all over the place and he said that the thrush is down to high blood sugars. Which I'm trying to sort out.

Would a muller fruit corner do the job if live yoghurt is out of stock?

:( :)

I'll take that as a joke  - to which the answer is no! You're just adding more sugar  . And there are far too many carbs in any flavoured yoghurt.

i had bad thrush a while back, doc said sugar in the urine was to blame. caused various problems for me for about 9 months. thrush isnt fun, but the condition caused my foreskin skin to loose a lot of its elasticity. even the doctor laughed when i asked "what should i do about my torn ****-skin?". the thrush was gone but for another 6 months afterwards, i was not a happy bunny. after a while, all it took was for a cute girl to smile at me, and the healing process needed to start again. 19 years old and scared to get an errection because of the pain. i suppose we all carry our own battle wounds.

so you know...

i cant offer any actual advice, but i hope my little story at least made you smile

As a male, I too also get very sweaty in the groin area, particularly during sexual activity where it is very prominent around my bottom and groin so is the sweat thing just a diabetic thing in general??? Or have I just got a really sweaty ar*e? thankfully my partner is accepting of it and she deals with it ok.

Aside from the thrush issue etc, isn't there just a chance that it's natural vaginal juices and you're just more 'moist' than others naturally?
