Well done. Same thing happened to me, diagnosed end of April last year, lost 5 stone, hba1c was 5.4, dr has taken me off metformin straight down from 3 x 500 a day to nothing. Now I'm on 3 months trial! Some good morning readings (below 5) but struggling a bit after my main meal to stay as low as I was on tablets. Fingers crossed when I go back at end of May it'll be ok.

So far, reducing to one tablet seems to be working.

I've now had 4 mornings at 4.9 mmol/l and one at 5.4 mmol/l

I'll keep it going for a couple of weeks before making any decisions.

It's a good feeling. The BG levels, like weight, don't come down smoothly or evenly, they plateau and sometimes even go up a bit but if the general trend is down, keep doing whatever you are doing. The big trick is to get the trend in the right direction whilst settling on foods that you are happy with and can carry on eating. Sometimes that means re-educating your taste buds, other times you just get lucky. Good news is always a big boost for your confidence though. Keep it up.

Thats great. Ive been taking 2 metformin for over a week and feel fine. I would like to come off them for a week or so and test regulary to see the difference. Just waiting on a appointment to go to diabetes clinic at the hospital. Seems to be forever ive waited. Over 3 months now. Anyone else had the same problem?

John :)

After 3 months on one 500mg metformine per day my levels are averaging 85 mg/dl or 4.7 mmol/l - pretty well where they were when I was taking 2 (and before that three).

Ha1bc was 5.3% this morning.

My doctor says continue with one tablet for another 3 months with the intention of stopping meds if all is well. He says if my levels drop further over the 3 months I should experiment with alternate days then none.

I dropped 6 stone and my averages are now 5.5 - 5.6. but still on metformin.(2 slow release per day). It seems different doctors have such different ideas on how best to proceed.

I was running around 4.5, so probably too low ?

lundi 5 août 2013 83
mardi 6 août 2013 81

Despite having visitors and eating in restaurants, things are going OK.

I am now down to 82.7 kg from a max of 109 which is the main factor together with a changed diet ...

How did you manage to lose the weight? I have tried everything but am still struggling to lose and I am really trying hard but even my Gp can't understand why nothing is coming off.

I, too, had a false start.

I lost 5kg quite quickly but then couldn't lose any more despite being down to 1200 calories per day.

A nutrionist told me that 1200 calories per day is starvation rations, the body thinks a famine is around the corner, and so stores fat.

The solution was to eat a high protein diet with a lot of salad and veg.

For 4 or 5 months I didn't lose weight but clothes became too big as I converted fat to muscle. I continued and after 6 months with the same diet the weight loss started. I've stuck to it and I lost about 2kg per month since.

It is now getting harder, but I am "just" in the normal category of the BMI tables - 24.7 down from 32.5.

Now 4 months on I'm still not taking any medication.

My rolling 90 day fasting glucose results are 89.6 ( 4.9 in UK measurement) with maximums of 104 ( 5.8 ) and minimums of 78 ( 4.3 ).

Ha1bc is 5.3

I'm (just) holding my weight around 82kg (13 stone).

I still have to watch my diet carefully.
