Michael Gove and his insane educational? policies!
Me to mother -in law- 'I like that dress you are wearing,it looks really nice'
Mother-in-law ' You can have it when you can fit into it'

I want some Marmite flavoured cashew nuts, an icy cold diet coke and the Stereophonics on the jukebox please.
Is your mother in-law related to my mum?
Conversation about exercise with mother and husband:
Me: I think I might try running up the stairs several times. Wonder how many times in 5 minutes?
Mother: do you think that's a good idea? You know how accident prone you are. Haven't you fallen down the stairs a few times?
Husband: do you remember that time when you tripped on one of the kids wellies and did some stair surfing, landing on the bottom step and breaking you coccyx
Mother: do you remember that time when you fell down the stairs, landed on the stack of new flooring and had to go to hospital to get your leg stitched?
Husband: my brother calls her cartoon accident girl.
Hope this brings a smile to someone's face!

Right, here's my very simple Monkfish curry recipe, I'll not give quantities as its all adaptable to taste

Ingrdients

Monkfish medalions or chicken breast chopped into strips
Garlic chopped
Small onion roughly chopped
Grated fresh ginger
Asparagus tips or chopped green beans
Aubergine cut into small cubes
Coconut milk
Thai red curry paste or a panang paste if you prefer.
Fresh chillis, finely chopped
Fresh coriander leaf chopped
Either egg noodles or zero noodles depending on how well you can tolerate them, precooked

Put the cooked noodles into the bottom of some soup bowls

In a wok with a little coconut oil cook the aubergine and green beans with the fresh chill for a minute or two, then add the onions, garlic and ginger and cook for another minute or two, then add the asparagus for about one minute. Add the fish and curry paste and cook together for two minutes coating everything. Add the coconut milk stirring constantly to ensure it does not split. As soon s the fish is cooked to your satisfaction (i like mine slightly undercooked) ladle the curry into the bowls and add the coriander leaf. The whole process should take less than 10 minutes in total, this is a very fast dish.

Thats it! There are lots of variations on this, that recipe can be made hot, mild, very wet like a soup or very dry like a Panang, its all about varying the proportions to suit your tastes. To make the soup I'd use a whole 400g can of coconut milk, to make a panang I'd use 100-150g of coconut cream instead. The real trick is to ensure that all the ingredients are cooked to the correct point at the time of serving, asparagus tips cook much faster than green beans, aubergine takes longer still. Experiment!

The thai curry pastes are extremely good, come in tubs and are available in all the big supermarkets now.

Now this is my all time favourite thai dish, I make it with trout. The way its cooked the skin becomes very crunchy and tastes wonderful, I do filler the fish but its not necessary really, with a fine boned fish like trout I can actually eat any bones that get missed as they go just as crunchy as the skin! This recipe is a sweeter version than I usually make as I leave out most of the palm sugar

Now I am looking for good and interesting ideas of what to cook for the England Ireland game in the 6 nations, we always do themed food for the England games but I don't really want to do the obvious ones like Irish Stew, any suggestions? Got to be something we can easily prepare for about 40 people at half time.

If you're serving grub to the non-carbohydrate challenged, you can't go far wrong with champ - even nicer if you flash fry it in bacon fat to get a crispy coating.

I think there would be a riot if we served up a salad to the rugby mob, they are too used to massive quantities of meat, but I'll tuck that one away for Mrs Bear and I as we love salads.

I'm on the Biddenden 8.6% cider at the moment, bit strong so I'm having a couple of halves instead of a pint, and to save on the washing up I'm having both of them in the same glass, I'm a thoughtful sort of bear.
