Kelly - unless you have been gorging that weight is highly unlikely to be fat. It's more likely a lot of water and perhaps even a little muscle repair of you are still exercising.

Your body has been in starvation mode. You may have been eating but your body hasn't had the tools it needs (insulin) to burn it off properly. I bet your metabolism is rather shot at present.

So, now you have given your body the tools, I'd bet it's working extra, super hard to sort itself out, which may mean it's taking time for all sorts of normal things to happen.

Your body has been in peak crisis and it will take time to rebalance things.

Unless you can get your head around the fact you have to go through a transition to reprime your body to work efficiently you will find this a real uphill struggle.

You need to ensure you see your doctor and set your formal support network in place. Where you have been heading is potentially catastrophic your you, your husband, daughter, friends and family.

I often say that diabetes isn't a solo sport.

Without being too indelicate: are you going at all?

Irrespective of that, I'd suggest you ensure you're drinking enough water. Your body needs to be well hydrated to cope with everything

Well your levels so far have been very good ! :) I agree with what @AndBreathe has said, your body has been on a hiding to nowhere for way too long, and currently it is trying to cope and get back to normal.

It's important to note that your previous weight was NOT normal, not achieved by exercise and good diet, but by malnutrition and metabolic meltdown . Your hydration levels were probably very poor :( Ots almost impossible for you to gain this amount of weight as body fat in such a short time, and things will normalise in all aspects once you are stable.

Going back to one of your earlier posts, I think your partner is probably right about you having problems accepting you are diabetic , and this is one of the issues that a specialised diabetic team can help you with. Please take that opportunity if it's offered, I know they took you off the list for non attendance, but luckily it's not a lifetime ban;) and they have seen it all before !

Don't give up now, you will look SO much better as a healthy lass :)

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Agree with andbreathe too.

However are you due a period?? (Sorry to ask such personal question) but it is also a consideration...

I have just read this post and this sounds very familiar to me. About 3 years ago I suddenly started losing weight. I went from about 10 stone down to 8 stone 2 at my lightest. At the time I felt fine and was thrilled I was so skinny. However I did NOT stop taking my insulins...just as little as I could get away with. Anyhow, my blood sugars were running constantly high....rarely getting into single figures. Like you, I also kept missing appointments. Then eventually about a year later I decided I should see my diabetes consultant. I thought my weight loss was probably down to my thyroid but not so. It was my body feeding off my fat stores..a very unhealthy condition..and dangerous. The consultant told me my kidneys had deteriorated significantly (now 25%) plus retinal damage and cataracts. I also attended a DAFNE course and learnt a lot. My blood sugars are improved but not perfect. I have gained nearly 2 stone. I totally hear what you are saying about losing weight. I keep looking at photos of myself when I was thin and I would give anything to look like that again. I follow the lchf diet and hope my weight will start to come off. I also take lantus..10 units twice a day...and novorapid...between 3-6 units before meals. I understand that lantus can be a culprit in weight gain but PLEASE don't stop taking your insulins. Good luck with everything x

Hi thank you for the reply i went to see my doctor on tuesday i didnt really discuss the insulin use it was more to do with the fact since my last post my stomach has become distended aswell i looked 9 months pregnant and it was solid i could barely breath as it was that full anyway even thoughit has now gone down slightly i have had blood tests and should have the results back tomorrow. i asked if he thinks its to do with the insulin and he has said no and its not water retention
so moral of my story always trust your own instincts and body ill keep you updated - luckily my weight has now dropped and levelled at 9st 5 but i do still have a ballooned up stomach but not as big or hard!
