    Diabetes is a lonely beast

Maybe I’m jet lagged, maybe hung over, maybe home sick. Maybe all the above. I really feel that this is a lonely journey.. the wife doesn’t want to talk ‘numbers’, diabetes is all consuming with both me and daughter number 2 being diagnosed t1 in the space of 6 months. I feel like I’m on self...

    How long to dka?

Ok.. so a few doses and I’m fixed. I actually feel better too(thought it was jet lag and hangover.. maybe not). Lesson learned.. don’t experiment with not taking insulin and travelling half way round the world!

    How long to dka?

Ok.. so I’m gonna start taking my lantus. Maybe really small doses of fiasp too. I think suddenly getting ill out here is gonna be really tricky. At least I can deal with the lows! My levels are all over the place..

    How long to dka?

Currently travelling in China and think I’m honeymooning (or misdiagnosed), don’t want to be ill..

    How long to dka?

So how long does it take to see signs of dka? I haven’t taken my long acting lantus in 2 days and only a single unit of fiasp since Friday. Sugars are just spiking after food and returning to normal afterwards by themselves. Ketones are nominal too.. Would appreciate any advice/comments.

    Honeymooning?

Another day.. no insulin whatsoever! Breakfast and lunch spikes normalised by my body? Surely this can’t be right?

    Honeymooning?

So my last long acting (lantus) was Friday at 7pm. I have had no fast acting in the last day either... Am I even diabetic! Lol

    Honeymooning?

Thanks for the reply.. it does help. Glad to know it’s something that does happen and I’m not misdiagnosed. We did drink prosecco last night too.. so maybe the alcohol has something to do with it. Dropping low now too.. gonna be a weird day.

    Honeymooning?

So woke up ok, then dropped. Had a yogurt, toast and a oat breakfast bar. No insulin (fiasp) and cruising at 6. Is this odd?

    Honeymooning?

Yeah fingerpricks are pretty close to scans. Was diagnosed at xmas. Things were kinda good, I was on 19 lantus and a 1:10 icr. Will do the reductions whilst travelling. Hope this sorts itself out.

    Honeymooning?

So I have decreased my lantus night does by 3 clicks over this week (to 16), upped my icr to 1:20 and having a hard time staying up. We saw this with my daughter and resulted in her collapsing and ending up in hospital. Told about honeymooning. Guess this is what’s happening to me. I’m due to...

I am not a liar or an idiot.

Wow! I have made some serious life decisions because of my children.. but FOR them! Both financially and within the home. I hope your negativity doesn’t wash onto them and their daily lives. /sadface.

I am not a liar or an idiot.

I opted for pat down at Heathrow 2 weeks ago as didn’t know if I could use the libre in the full body scanner. Really wasn’t an issue, the security manager came over and we went and had a pat down, I got through security quicker than a colleague who had a bag emptying! It’s a shame you had a...

I am not a liar or an idiot.

I know I’m still a noob at this.. but the libre absolutely changed the way we manage both myself and the little one. Trending has meant we can catch both ups and downs - making it predictable. What difficulties did you have with the pump and airport security? We are moving my little to a pod...

I am not a liar or an idiot.

I don’t want to be rude.. but I guess it’s the type of person you are too. Positive mental attitude has a lot to do with everything we do in life, not just management of T1. What I don’t understand is; why you would never take your children on holiday or to a water park? Both me and my 8yr old...

Type 1 Is there a way to prevent blood sugar spikes?

I was the same, my consultant moved me to fiasp this week and while I still spike slightly after breakfast (up to 9), lunch and dinner have pretty much flattened out. Today I had a Cornish pasty and sausage roll for lunch (greedy pastry feast I know!) and barely moved above 7.

I am not a liar or an idiot.

I am a proper noob.. few months in. Thanks to some great advice and encouragement on this site, I have had a week away skiing in Italy (was seriously thinking of pulling out after diagnosis), I am now back to running, just 5k at the mo.. but I will build up distance as I get a feel for what my...

    Getting back to it! Running/weights

Added a 30 min weight training after the run ( an apple juice to start)and cruising nicely... I hope I can replicate this for regular training!

    Getting back to it! Running/weights

So second run. No reduction today but left it 2-3 hours, had a little iob and had a protein bar 20 mins before running. 23:30 - I’ll take that and steady numbers too!
