    DUPUYTREN DISEASE?

I had the same. Interestingly, or maybe not, I also play guitar, albeit very badly. My contracture was in my left hand, so not good for fretwork! They tried cortisone injections into the hand, painful and ineffective on the whole. Then had an op; I can say that within a month my hand was perfect...

    Feeling better already

I don't know your situation, but 10.4 as a fasting BG is quite high; it's perhaps concerning therefore that you stopped taking your meds. Have you discussed this with your doctor? I see you're insulin dependent, so if you come off forxiga your medical team may wish to adjust your insulin doses...

    How many carbs

I agree with Rachox. I am not low carb, but what I call "modified" carb, in that I eat about 150 grams of low GI carbs per day. But you have to find a level that gives you the BG levels you want. You could change some of your diet in a small way though; NO shop bought sarnies! They normally...

Am I OK to eat this...

Good result starfish. I found the morning BGs the hardest to get down initially; takes time. Dawn phenomena and all that. It seemed that I used to wake up with what I went to bed with (BGs that is!) so I used to try and ensure low bed time BGs. No food/snacks after 9pm etc.

Am I OK to eat this...

For a treat, I buy a pot of coconut bits from sainsburys (slightly higher carbs than some nuts, but alright in smaller doses and low GI) and I melt some 85% chocolate. Dunk the coconut in the chocolate, or spoon some on, and let it set. Keep in the fridge. Two average size pieces very little...

    LCHF effect on lipids

LDL sometimes increases on LCHF, but trigs reduce a lot, and they are the real bad ones. Your trig score is great, and overall figures fine. Don't worry.

Can anyone help shed some light on what's happening please?

One thing on the bread comment. I was a fervent Burgen soya and linseed man. I now prefer the hovis lower carb seeded, not the wholemeal version. And although the carbs look roughly the same per 100g, the hovis is marginally less per slice, as slices are less weight wise, so on the basis we eat...

Still got the price tag on

Not sure what your question is - are you asking why your BGs are the same on or off metformin? If so, the fact is that metformin doesn't do a great deal for BGs. It has been suggested that on maximum dose metformin, the maximum affect on peak readings would be to reduce them by 1 to 2 mmols. So...

    Diabetes affecting daily life

Why can't you? Don't understand why having diabetes should stop you enjoying yourself, or doing anything that others are doing. It is of course perhaps different for a type 1/type 2 insulin user I guess?, but as a type 2 for 16 years (diagnosed 2010, but company medical records show I was...

    Need a listening ear

In agreeing with the above, it's perhaps useful to understand about beta cells. These are the fellas that produce insulin for us. We have pretty much all the beta cells we are going to have by our late teens. We then start using them up. By the time we get to 60, most people have in the order of...

Hba1c result of 41 without any medication

I'm sure I'll know your name of course - or avatar name - can you reveal this or is that a no-no on here now for mods?

Can anyone help shed some light on what's happening please?

I wrote that for this forum in a welcoming note about 8 years ago, so can't disagree. However, I'm not so sure about the downer on low carb muffins. Everything has to be taken in moderation, but the use of almond flour gives us a treat with very little carbs unless the muffin is huge of course...

    Pre diabetes diagnosis

I wouldn't worry too much about a second test to confirm diabetes/pre-diabetes. To be honest, I don't agree much with differentiating between the two. A normal non-diabetic person would have an HbA1c of about 30, so all our readings are way above that. NICE doesn't like the idea of reducing...

Can anyone help shed some light on what's happening please?

How do you make your "low carb" muffins - are they just normal flour, but sweetener instead of sugar? Or do you use something like almond flour? If you're just using normal flour, you need to remember that white flour can raise your BGs as much as/more than sugar!

Any tips for lowering blood sugar when it’s high for no obvious reason?

Have you had tests to confirm whether or not you are type 2?

Hba1c result of 41 without any medication

You're right guzzler, in about 1 in 20 cases according to a study. However, taking vitamin supplements isn't too much of an issue. I think the protection from heart attacks (or similar) is worth the trade off with a possible vitamin deficiency. Each to they're own of course. We just need to have...

Hba1c result of 41 without any medication

There is a major difference between Metformin and other meds of course. Metformin has very little impact on BGs. On maximum dose, it can reduce peak Bgs by a max of 1 - 2 mmols, IF those peaks are high. And 1 - 2 mmols doesn't help much if you're peaking in the teens. At lower peaks, and...

    Inaccurate monitor- SD code free

The monitors do tend to be inaccurate, but how you use them is a variable as well. Not washing/rinsing hands before testing can have a big effect Squeezing too hard and too close to the puncture site can effect readings, as fluids are forced into the sample you are testing. The results will...
