Panic about what to eat, starting insulin this week

Just take it one day or one meal at a time. Go with what your blood sugar tells you two hours after eating. Your nurse can't argue with stable numbers. You will find what works for you. Take small steps. Try to do something nice that takes you away from thinking about diabetes. I am a newbie...

Panic about what to eat, starting insulin this week

Hi I lost a, lot of weight after diagnosis was thin to start with. Then ate what I wanted and put weight back on eating hospital food. I have dairy and wheat intolerances and chronic acid reflux so had to listen to my body when I got home. I started a low carb diet with meat, veg, eggs, roasted...

    Newbie recovering from coma

Hi Was diagnosed on my birthday last October when I went into hospital in a diabetic coma. Pretty traumatic - life support, kidney failure, couldn't walk or talk. It's a few months on now and I am getting back into life. People wouldn't know anything was wrong with me if they passed me on the...

    Newly Diagnosed -Type 1

@Xal Recently changed my diet and bg is 5 - 8'6 mmol most of the time. No hypos :-) but goes up to 12mmol during the night or after meals. This rise only happens when I eat wholemeal toast before bed and certain foods like sweetcorn or lentils. With the help of my diabetic nurse to reduce my...

    Gerd & Keto

Thanks. Had Gerd before diabetes. Got some stomach bugs travelling. I think they are all linked. Bg was low now going high. Honeymoon period is not easy. Off basal and bolus has been reintroduced as pancreas is temperamental meal by meal day by day. Have given in to gerd medication. It's exhausting.

    Newly Diagnosed -Type 1

Glad you posted. I am a newbie of 4mths too who also went into a type 1 diagnosis through a diabetic coma. I found lots of eating avoided hypos especially wholemeal food. Eating wholemeal toast before bed helped eliminate night time lows. During the day I ate every 2 hrs only fruit - berries...

    Gerd & Keto

Diagnosed almost 4mths with type 1 at 47. Was giving insulin but pancreas is now producing some insulin. Eating low carb. Blood glucose was low on insulin with frequent hypos but now it's 10-14 without it. Added complication of GERD so wheat dairy sugar is best avoided plus other food triggers...
