What do you love to eat?

The hardest things for me to give up were breakfast cereals and my 'go to comfort food' which was a cheesy baked potato. But I now LOVE my breakfast (which I don't have before at least 11am) and I have Greek yoghurt with two tablespoons of mixed Chia and Pumpkin seeds added, plus a small amount...

What happens next? Need a bit of guidance

Hi @Simon592 You must be feeling abandoned and confused! Some health centres are so bad at explaining what's what despite knowing that this is an alien diagnosis for you. To my mind this is certainly not putting the patient first. I was lucky in that my GP went out of her way to explain...

Hi, just found out I have diabetes, waiting for the dr to tell me how bad it is, feeling overwhelmed

Yes I think most of us felt overwhelmed and frightened when diagnosed. It's such an awful shock, isn't it. I know that I cried a lot at first and ... in my own case ... just couldn't understand what carbs, meters or blood glucose readings were. I was so confused by this new language but then one...

    Diabetic self care course.

I firmly agree with both of you here! I was also told to eat carbs (in 2016 when diagnosed) but that they should ideally be wholemeal carbs. I struggled for the first three years but just thought it was myself in the wrong ... not following NHS advice properly or something. But then I stumbled...

    Hello All

Thank you but unfortunately I haven't the money for a pressure cooker now that I've purchased the slow cooker as I'm a single parent putting my daughter through four years at Uni which is 300 miles away from home xx

    Hello All

It's a really tiny slow cooker to make a meal for just myself so it wouldn't fit large joints of meat x

    Hello All

@LittleGreyCat thank you. I did think about just leaving out all the starchy veg, but then wondered if it would spoil the dish, so it seemed best to ask on here for tried and tested ideas. I hope to discover several ideas and to write them down in preparation for Autumn. I'm a little nervous...

    Hello All

I've just purchased a tiny slow cooker for my meals when Autumn/Winter arrive as I'll only be cooking for myself ... daughter off to Uni. Has anyone here any recipes that I can try please as I've not used one before and can only seem to find recipes containing potato and other starchy veg?

Thank you and I have still only had the one eye done, but so far the other isn't troublesome enough to have an operation. xx

    Cateracts!

Yes indeed ... if surgery works! My mum lost her vision and I have lost 26 per cent of my vision during cataract operations. Doesn't come without risks sadly :(

unwell and waiting for hba1c, metformin fears

YES! I started on one Metformin then two ... until the four prescribed. No problems in the slightest. Within three months I was down to two, and then to just one at breakfast time. I stopped taking them a few months ago since my control, is good but really had no issues whatsoever with them :)

    Milk!

I'm someone who only has double cream in my coffee, although with tea I like a little seme skimmed milk. I used to only buy skimmed milk but then discovered that it's not the best. I think full fat milk is the better one but I don't like it.

    Strategies to help when shopping.

This has been posted just as I am struggling too! I've been in none diabetic numbers for over three years now, but a week ago I came down with the worst cold I've had in decades and all I wanted to eat was comfort food. I really couldn't stomach the idea of all my usual healthy foods. So I've...

Type 2 Diabetics wake up at 3:00 am ?

I wake at 3am too! Isn't it strange how that happens. Well I trick my mind I suppose in a way as I tell myself how lovely and cosy I am and how warm the bed is. Then I smile to myself, thinking 'It's only 3pm and I don't have to get up for ages yet' and then just go with my thoughts as I relax...

    NUTS

Yes I agree about the Brazil nuts. I allow myself just three per day as it appears to be the daily requirment, but also love walnuts and pecans:) Oh and almonds haha

    Fat loss to remission

Well I certainly wholly agree with this last paragraph! I've forgotten what hunger pangs are since being on an extremely low carb diet and intermitten meals!
