    Am I being irresponsible?!?

I’m one meal per day too and always have been except when consultants or friends tried to get me to eat more... now 40 years and still lean and fit. No complications. The worst thing about eating more is insulin stacking. Best thing when I was pushed to by others to eat more was to leave 5...

    Split bolus for most foods?

I don’t pre bolus but have a routine that works for evening food. I eat one meal per day... Sounds odd but works for me: Mornings: 2 units fiasp to stop getting out of bed rises. 11 units insulatard (kicks in later in afternoon when my levels rise) Tea time: one normal bolus of...

    Newly Diagnosed

May be better to have a couple dark squares of dark chocolate each night rather than a whole bar at once. Some alcohol can affect bloods but others don’t. Be careful with sweet potato. I take it you haven’t got a meter to test before and after meals...?? This is the only way to find out which...

(rapid) short-term insulin no longer "short"

DP and foot on floor for me. Unfortunately Fiasp for me gave me every side effect listed. Had extensive tests and investigations in last 6 months to find out what was wrong... nothing visible with cameras or scans. Then I read the side effects after seriously thinking what on Earth is wrong with...

Thanks for reply’s... I know I am hugely intolerant to a lot of medications... but never as far asI’m aware insulin of any sort. I had onespare pack of novorapid in fridge and was going to try it before realising it went out of date in June!! Also had it removed off my prescription so last...

So finally it is type 1.

Insulin is the only treatment for T1.../ so you are only putting off the inevitable.

    Fiasp side effects?

Has anybody had side effects from FIASP? Started since End last year and lost my voice initially, although this has returned, had constant UTI’s and kidney infections. Now being investigated for bladder and kidney problems. Never had UTI’s or kidney infections before. Worst being night...

    At a Crossroads

I have similar problems. Pump worked well for me for 5 years but then hit problems with the cannulas and acceptance by my skin... and also hitting blood/muscles.... 2 hospitals put me back on pump and both admit that the cannulas and my body do not work together. My pumps were wired. Didn’t...

    If not gastroparesis then what?

I would do some basal testing.... and see if your background insulin is too high. That could be impacting upon the food timings and your fast acting insulin? What fast acting insulin are you using? With GP it’s unlikely that you would be able to eat one choc digestive, let alone ten.

type 1 diabetic - your honest experiences with your care trust

I stay put until I see my consultant... especially on Mondays!! One time I had an8.50 appt and the reception tried to get me to see another consultant. I had to wait until 11.30 due to him doing ward rounds, but I will not see anyone else. Learnt that from experience!! My consultant is very...

Hi Again.... General life rant... Sorry[emoji21]

You’ve had a tough time and I’m glad your wife has been told no evidence found remaining. I too have had breast cancer and a double mastectomy and T1 diabetic. My darling husband got me through it but suddenly died a year ago aged 51. What I will say... you must get sorted. I think you know...

    Advice!

The very basic principle of injecting a background and fast acting insulin... 1) if you go low over night then you need to lower your basal injection. 2) if you go high or low 2-3 hours after eating and having your fast injection then you need to adjust the fast acting insulin... That is the...

What to eat when having hypo

The best option is the options of no fat... so the jelly babies are great or some drink from a sugary drink like lucozade... but you must not over treat.. Being on insulin you may well need a follow up of a longer term carb such as a digestive...this depends when you injected and how much...

    Ulceractive Colitus & Type 2

My best friend had ulcerative colitis. He could not manage life without the medication for it. If the meds for ulcerative colitis do affect BS... well, it’s no different to your struggles now... I would go back to your GP / Consultants. Metformin has also got some side effects for some people...

Constant issues with Accu-Chek infusion sets

I had this after 5 years of great pump usage. I had used the combo steel and flexible CanI las and insight as well. I came off it. Changed hospital twice as I moved. Both hospitals gave me different pumps to Accuchek and both still had problems with my body blocking cannulas-any length, any...
