    Replacing carbs with fat...

Well.....the way I've been eating fat (of all kinds bar trans), I will soon establish its effects on me, unless I keel over before then. In which case remember me as a martyr for the cause....lol I tell you, sometimes it really does feel like we have to largely 're-imagine' the biology of...

    Replacing carbs with fat...

Prior to this condition I understood that humans vary biologically on an individual level and that this has implications for medicine. But it is only after actually getting dx and communicating with others with it that I have only REALLY started to grasp just how unique we are in this respect...

    Thank you Monitors.

You guys are pretty cool. I've always had my questions answered on the forum and it has had an immeasurable impact on my ability to deal with this condition. Three cheers for the forum and moderators! Hip hip.... Hip hip.... Hip hip....!!

    Replacing carbs with fat...

I should add. I do also try and counter balance the bad fat intake with fairly regular intake of good fat via flaxseed, pumpkin seed and sesame seeds and olive oil (even if the cheaper pomace stuff). It's like I'm a guinea pig in my own crazy experiment. As long as I don't 'conk out' in the...

    Replacing carbs with fat...

I don't even use margarine anymore, just go for butter.... I actually can't wait for my next bloods because I'm going to see the results of my high fat, green tea and grapefruit diet on my Cholesterol levels. Heck I was scoffing pork bellies the other day...that can't be too good for you...

    The future of blood monitoring?

What we need is a device built into a wrist watch. Maybe it will have some 'micro pins' on its back that are plugged painlessly into your skin and measure that way. The watch device should also be discreet (i.e. not any different to other digital watches) so as to avoid advertising your...

    Replacing carbs with fat...

Okay, I keep hearing that diabetics (T2) can't metabolise fats properly but haven't been told why exactly? Is this true, if so, is it a bad idea to get a greater chunk of our calories through fats in lieu of carbs? Any (even partially) informed opinions welcome. I have been doing this and...

Can testing shortly after a warm bath effect results?

Okay, I let go a bit over xmas and new year..... Getting some strange readings.... Like readings that go up 1 point after fasting testing, despite not having eaten anything between the two tests. Yes, I'd expect some variance but not that much? Was wondering if testing shortly after a nice...

Xmas gift - Grand Solage Boulard

Got a bottle of this brandy type stuff for xmas. Grand Solage Boulard - Calvados Pays d'Auge Anyone know if it is laden with sugar/carbs or anything? Or will I just have to use myself as a Guinea pig to find out? - Think it was a formerly unwanted gift..... A scotch or single malt would...

    Now That Christmas Is Over

I too indulged for a few days. I checked my levels quite frequently throughout and never got anything over the limits thankfully. Had home made chips after almost a year and loved it! Noted it didn't whack up my bs levels as carbs used to. Overall my carb tolerance seems to have improved and I...

    Accucheck Aviva Teststrips - difference

I bought a bunch of Accucheck Aviva strips (on the cheap) and have just realised that they are a mixture of the new type (with the small green box with the diagonal black stripes on it) and the older ones (with the yellow box with black diagonal stripes). Anyone know the difference and whether...

Burgen Soya Linseed Bread - Carbs?

Thanks for that! Went from 6.5 at 1 hour to 5.5 at 2. So It was around 20 grams of low GI carbs. I'm tempting to push the ceiling and see what kind of effect 40 grams will have next..... hmmmm......

Burgen Soya Linseed Bread - Carbs?

Does anyone know how many carbs a slice of Burgen's Soya/Linseed bread has? Just had a sandwich with 2 slices with a small bs rise. I'm wondering how many carbs I ate? Had it with roast chicken, lettuce and coleslaw filling in case you're wondering.

    Is this hypo territory?

I guess the crux of the matter lies in whether levels that are okay for nondiabetics are okay for us? My guess is as good as yours in this respect. I know 3.9 wouldn't be consider abnormal as a nondiab's fasting level, so whether this works for us is the question? I mean I'd prefer to be mid 4s...

    Is this hypo territory?

Spoke to doctor (on phone) who simply said, stop taking Met. She is going to phone me tomorrow as she had a meeting. One question I have for you guys regards the figures for a hypo. Now last night I went through that oft-cited study by Christiansen (2006)...
