    Chana Dal

Generally I've doing reasonably well on the food front and identified many 'bad' foods for me through testing. I got a bit of a shock today though. On a quest to try something different and healthy I chose tpo make some chana dal, which is some large lentil type thing. The bloke who created...

    Peanut butter cravings

I really crave peanut butter these days. Never had before. I eat it by the spoonful on its own. I'm wondering if this is pointing to some particular nutrient deficiency in my diet? I'm a T2 btw.

Lychees - Good, bad or ugly for us?

I'm type 2 and I bought a box of lychees the other day. They are very sweet and juicy. I was wondering if anyone knew about their suitability for us? Are they in the same gang as bananas and mandarins i.e. ones we have to be careful of? Pray do tell!

    causal factors of diabetes

I recently had a prolonged horrendous time at work at the hands of management. I think this is what brought about the onset of type 2 in my case. I know that I had a genetic disposition from the old man, but I'd been eating and living reasonably healthy and had even managed to pack up smoking...

Anyone heard of a new product called DEcarb.

Theoretically, I'd get some (if they worked) just so I could have a carb laden meal once in a while. Especially as I seem hyper sensitive to the stuff. A mere 23g(!!!) of Shredded Wheat had me up to 10.5 @ 1 hour the other day........ :( But right now, that is a luxury one can't afford.

Can a doctor prescribe you Chromium Picolinate?

I know you usually get this stuff from a health shop. I have started taking it and am getting good results (so far). I was wondering, can I get my doctor to prescribe me these?

    Non diabetic blood sugar levels

Ka-Mon Count yourself lucky. My surgery discourages testing and limits it to 2 times a week! Refuses to prescribe me any more test strips than that. Plainly budgetary constraints are behind the decision, not any consideration of my health. The doctor/nurse refused to prescribe test strips even...

    Non diabetic blood sugar levels

I really hope I'm not one of those guilty of what is mentioned above. That being said, I have to say that the advice from experts (like a Nurse or GP) sometimes seems plainly detrimental. I'm sure they aren't doing it on purpose and of course we cannot expect them to be experts in every field...

    In the 6s!

Thank you Nigel! Doesn't feel like much to celebrate to be honest. Seeing my GP on Thursday btw. Am going to insist on seeing the diabetologist. Need professional advice, not the Mickey Mouse type.

    In the 6s!

I recently stopped taking my 1 Metformin tablet. The wind was killing me.... I have however kept up the Simvastatin. I'm wondering if it okay for me to be in the 6s most of the time? Mid 6 seems to be quite common for me, even as a fasting reading. I usually fluctuate between high 5s and mid...

    Non diabetic blood sugar levels

Thanks for the link Markd So it seems that non-diabetics fluctuate between 3.1 to 8.9 mmols in a day (according to this study). Peak glucose levels are at around 45 mins (with variance depending on glucose absorption rates). BS levels are higher in the morning (something already known by many...

Virgin Olive Oil and Med. Diet for Type 2.

I've been converted somewhat. I love a nice piece of pan fried salmon (in olive oil of course) on a bed of mixed salad (must have rocket), cherry tomatoes and a few olives tossed in a mixture of olive oil, cider and balsamic vinegar. All topped off with a sprinkling of mixed nuts inc. sesame...

I am desperate to stop smoking

Steve I fully understand. I was diagnosed with typed 2 a few months ago but generally managed to stay away from the cigs, mostly because I felt so poorly I couldn't handle them. Recently I went out for the first time since diagnosis and fell off the wagon and indulged in some marijuana joint as...

    Non diabetic blood sugar levels

I'm finding keeping within levels a tad bit challenging. Lately I have been in the 6s range, (and more) even at fasting. A few high 5s here and there. The odd postprandial in the 7s and 8s also. My levels seems to be on a slight rise and I'm not sure if this is entirely down to less strictness...

You guys must try pumpkin seeds also. Although not officially a nut, it is a tasty source of unsaturated fat.

    Non diabetic blood sugar levels

I was scanning through a leaflet I got with my Accu-Chek Aviva test strips and I found the following: The leaflet gives a footnote that tells us that this information was gleaned from the 27th edition of Stedman's medical dictionary (1999), pg. 2082. I thought I would post this as many of us...

    body building and whey protein

I'm contending with weight loss myself. I think this condition can have the effect of using up fat stores making us lean. If you think about it, the way that the body cannot get sufficient energy that is usually stored in muscle via glucose means that the body probably utilises the stored fat...
