    Type 1'stars R Us

I’ve popped a freestyle libre on to see me over the next week or so, I find it helps ease any anxiety when I’m out. As my two children go back to school tomorrow (after a very lot six months off!) feeling a bit apprehensive, my husband was shielding so that finished in August and now it feels...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Oh really, it’s funny we all have different places that hurt more or less. I do fast acting in tummy too, as works faster (and I’m often a bit late to inject once actually tried work out carbs and what I’ll be doing later and current number and serving up food to kids who are starving) but do...

When freestyle libre shows a fast down arrow what to you do?

Ah thanks everyone that’s really interesting to see. Plus seems like you all do very similar things in response to the arrow. I had a bit of sugar as I was still walking and knew the insulin on board would be going for a while longer yet. I usually see a diagonal arrow and sort of ignore it. A...

    Foods that cause bloating

Lactose free maybe worth trying. Or the FODMAP diet, it’s cutting out lots foods that are known to cause bloating like cauliflower etc that family isn’t easily digested, hence build up of gas. Should be info online. Then you can try introducing foods back in and see. GP advised me to do it few...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Ah interesting ok thanks. Will carry on as I am then. I’d heard of type 1s using arms too, may hurt more? Like thighs as they don’t hurt at all! Tummy bruises easily..

    Type 1'stars R Us

Oh pleased to see this! I was told to inject my long acting into the top of my bum area...bit hit and miss sometimes with the angle and how far my arms can reach. Do most type 1s do bum for long acting and thighs, tummy for rapid? This is all I know, hope I’m doing it right!

When freestyle libre shows a fast down arrow what to you do?

Hello, I sometimes use (self funded hence the sometimes) a freestyle libre. Most of the time the arrows are across or diagonal up and down, but recently I’d had Insulin with my breakfast and set out on an early morning walk (doing the million steps challenge for diabetes uk) and could feel it...

Newly diagnosed. Was doing well but now ????

Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling great at the moment, I think blood test results will help you find out what type you are and then the best meds. Perhaps they’re trying to keep your blood sugars down until they know from results? I used to take Gliclazide (when gp said I was type 2) I’d been...

Controlling with low carb - GP /nurse unimpressed

I have had all nurses and GPs tell me not to test at home and not to do any low carb nonsense as it’ll make me ill. This is when I was originally told I was type 2. I did have one Gp who was temping I saw her saying I couldn’t tolerate metformin any more, my sugars are high and I feel ill... she...

Diabetic parents and the effects on their children

I have two children 5 and 10 and I had gestational with both, which went but came back a few years ago, late onset type 1, now been on insulin for 6 months. I have told them to call 999 if mummy is very unwell or on the floor because of low blood sugars as it’s often only me and them, and they...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

I reached out to my specialist diabetes nurse team as I’d had very high numbers last few days, spoke to a different lady than usual but she was so helpful, calm and fully appreciated how tiring diabetes can be! She said it to me...that’s a first! She advised if I found anxiety becoming too much...

I don’t know what to do

I am sorry to hear you’ve been having a rubbish time of it! I had a gp that told me for two years straight I was type 2. I had this feeling that I wasn’t! They put me on, metformin, slow release metformin, alogliptin, empagliflozin, Gliclazide and all the whilst I was seeing high numbers, 18, 24...

    Sick day rules...advice please

Many thanks, my blood sugar level it is coming down finally rather than still going up so at least that is a positive. Although still high, sitting at 17 currently.

    Glucose meter

I was on Gliclazide and given test strips as it is a lowering med, and risk of hypo if driving. The Meds in the family ending in flozin are also lowering and hypo risk. I was also put on that. GP should give on prescription, often if you don’t ask you don’t get!

    Sick day rules...advice please

Hello I’ve been on insulin for 6 months now, and I’ve been doing ok last hba1c was 57. I have found the last week my numbers have been going up, which I put down to the intense hot weather! so I upped my levemir before bed. Menopause

Although I’m not menopausal I do see a high rise in my numbers before my period each month, it’s really annoying, as a bit like you I’m trying and only see double digits with blood sugar results! So I need to take more Insulin during this time, the nurse suggested upping my dose by 20percent to...

    Fast acting injections

Hey, I inject before my meals as that is what I was told to do by speacialist nurse. I can spike quite high mind you if I’ve taken it right before eating and it’s quite carby. Consultant said can try up to 20 mins before meal to see if helps, but honestly I’m quite bad at remembering, I’m...

Libre Sensors coming off in the heat

Sounds like a plan, can use plaster with holes in for sensors for a bit of extra sticking power. I had one come loose but I had knackered it, the it kept giving me readings that where out, got fed up and took it off. Mine are always superglued to me, leaving bruises and circle marks. I use the...
