Passed my test by licence only valid for 1 year?

No, just type 1 for 21 years.

Passed my test by licence only valid for 1 year?

Hi everyone - I might be mistaken but I understood diabetics have to renew their driving licences every 3 years. Does anyone know why my first licence needs to be renewed after one year? I haven't had a serious hypo that need assistance in 9 years so doubt it is to do with that - is this...

So it's been two and a half years

I got diagnosed at 18 months so don't really know another life. I have gone through periods of diabetic burnout (and some mad years of little to no control) but have made the active decision to take what comes and deal with it as best as possible. I live quite a spontaneous life, just always...

    School type 1

One thing I had at school was some hypo treatment that the teachers kept aside so if I ran out I knew I could always ask them. In my primary school the dinner ladies knew and had spoken to my mum so I got a lunch which had around the same level of carbs each day making it easier to keep levels...

    Diabetes Camps

@HumerusGal hello! I went to a week long camp run by DUK (I think) when I was 7 to Calshott. It was super fun because I got taught to inject, figure out a little bit of carb counting and treating hypos, whilst doing loads of fun crazy activities like abseiling, dry slop skiing and a trip to a...

Would you book a holiday knowing your child may well be t1 by the time it comes round?

I was diagnosed aged 18 months and have lived as normal a life as any of my peers, because my parents decided that this is what they were going to try and do. This isn't to say that I didn't have random highs and lows or perfect control, but ti was good enough and I had a fantastic experience...

    Type 2- I know I'm young.

I wouldn't worry about taking injections with you - I've been injecting myself since I was 7 and everyone has been fine with it - most people barely realise you are doing it, just think you are getting something from your bag/pocket!

    Type 1 and anger

@mountaintom i'm not adult onset, have been diabetic for over 20 years, but I do find when I have periods of worse control (neverending rollercoaster....) I struggle to keep my emotions in check when angry (and can really overwhelmed which used to result in me doing stupid things but now is more...

    Type 1 diabetes

Ah see as a teen I used to wish I had a memory of not having to inject / take my bg / account for my diabetes because that's never been an option for me. I realise for a lot of people it's sad to remember maybe how things were, but I was sad because I will never experience being non-diabetic...

    Type 1 diabetes

Diagnosed as a 1 year old in 1997! Parents had a fun time with a newborn and a new diabetic that year ! I've not known life not being diabetic which I think has made it maybe a little easier for me (although that is not to say I haven't had my ups and downs....). If you feel like you are...

    Useless doctors letters

I mean it's so expensive because everything had already been covered by my consultant, but because they didn't send anything to my GP, the GPs have no record that I have been seen, so that's two extra appointments and blood tests telling me things that I already know. Exceptionally inefficient.

    Useless doctors letters

So hilariously when I saw the next doctor, his first question was why I was there - when I explained the letter he groaned and said it was the most annoying thing for him as it causes patients to panic.. what a nightmare. Turns out all was fine!

    Useless doctors letters

So I recently got a call from my GP surgery asking me to come in for a routine check-up. I do see a consultant once a eyar at the hospital but as they never pass on results my GP always asks that I come in and get all the tests run again. Blood and urine test done, a few days later I get a...

    Donating blood

Yep no blood or bone marrow. Organs however there is a movement to lower the stringency for organ transplants (not just any organs but if they function well but don't fill current criteria they are not used but some campaigners are trying to get this changed on the basis that so many people are...

Wear a bracelet that says you have diabetes!

If people want cheapish and subtle diabetes bracelets, the Finnish diabetic association does these two (https://www.diabetes.fi/d-kauppa/tunnukset/diabetestunnukset/6_perlonranneke_(musta)_hopealaatta_22_cm_(dd).18374.shtml...

    Ladies things (sorry blokes!)

This may be the answer to my questions!! Started a few days ago and have been having to give monster correction doses (for me) to keep my bg anywhere near target. As I have the implant I haven't really had periods for six or so years so I've forgotten everything that can happen. Urgh. I think I...

    Considerable decrease in insulin sensitivity

Hi all, Yesterday I had a bit of a nightmare, bgs were between 10-18 until around 7pm after quite massive corrections (around 6 units every hour?) and then they finally got in range until this morning, where I have swung up to 15, with a larger than normal bolus for my breakfast and another few...

    Flying

@NoKindOfSusie it's probably been quite a rollercoaster since you got diagnosed, so maybe if you explain that they will understand why you haven't told them yet. Have you spoken to your doctor about your basal insulin injection times? You may want to move it forward/back by a few hours each day...
