    No - Really?

Hmm this is a very poor study. Exercise is known to release cortisol a stress hormone known to increase blood sugar primarily via gluconeogenesis. Hence the elevated sugars could be a consequence of this rather than an intolerance of carbs. pinch of salt......elevated blood sugar after exercise...

    Type 2 Statins or not....

Retinopathy can progress with high cholesterol especially if you smoke and also with high blood pressure. Normally I would say no to statins but your situation needs carefull consideration with your doctor. I would be asking my doctor to investigate why my cholesterol is at 9. my personal cutoff...

    Blood sugars going down.

I seem to remember reading sudden dramatic drops in blood sugar can worsen existing retinopathy. not sure how that relates if you don't have it. Anyways longterm it balances out and your now fairly normal sugars will leave you much healthier, well done.

    Recommendations for hot chocolate please

Organic cacao powder almond milk and any sweetener of your choice. don't use sweetener if you are intolerant of it. a teaspoon or so of cacao is usually enough. experiment with different milks.

Is anyone else on the Neal Barnard Diet?

Great that it's working for you. For me that diet would reduce my cholesterol to dangerously low levels and increase my blood sugar. you stated that LCHF 'clearly worsened' [sic] your arteries. Can I ask how you know this?

    Diet drinks y/n???

Two years back when I went Keto I was super strict with everything but over the last year I have relaxed a little and have lo carb beers (coors lite) and red wine mixed with either diet lemonade or diet coke. blood sugar always goes down rather than up due to the alcohol (Hba1c for the last 2...

    Change Of Brand Of Metformin

TBH been on lots of brands over the years. The only thing that bugs me is the brand that only has about 7 tablets in a strip. Seems like a waste of packaging to me and I walk from the chemist with about 15 boxes to fill my prescription :-)

    statins

I would have a lot more respect for these so called professionals if they kept upto date. if I was to show the incompetence and failure to keep abreast of things that doctors and dietitians seem to show in my job I would very quickly find myself on benefits.

    statins

As stated above my statin therapy (eztimibe) started about 8 years ago when diagnosed type 2. over the years my memory or lack of it became a standing joke. then June 2015 when researching LCHF I stumbled across the link between poor cognition and statins. That June I started LCHF and ditched...

    Logging food

I was just looking at it. When I showed it my workmates they thought I had gone crazy. especially when I said it took 30 mins to work out my macros for the day. I told them you need to do this to regain control. Only people on here get that!

    Logging food

I didn't use any online app I made my own as some of the data in the online apps was questionable. For the first 3 months of starting Keto I logged every single meal including carbs fat and protein onto a spreadsheet that then calculated daily calories and all micro nutrients. this also gave me...

    Type 2 Utterly Confused

For weight loss your calories are still a bit high but more importantly your carbs are also way high hence your high blood glucose readings. you need to drop your carbs to about 50g (this is about the max carbs for a ketogenic diet) per day and these carbs should be veg grown above ground. If...

Type 1: 11 year old son who loves chocolates and sweets

Without wanting to sound to flippant but when I was that age my mum simply did not buy them and as a treat she might give us enough to buy a few bits and bobs of the penny tray. This was probably once per week.

    Is T2D remission rare?

Hmm....I think some of this discussion stems from the belief that meds are bad so therefore to come of meds is good. however I have been T2 diabetic in total for 10 years. Two years ago after the threat of insulin (I did not fancy the weight gain and faf) I went LCHF after weeks of research...

    Starting to really struggle......

I was referred to hospital with retinopathy with a view to laser surgery. However in the interim I went LCHF and by the time I got my appointment some 3 months later it had cleared up. HBA1c was 5.3% at that point. The doc was v impressed.
