Aching legs in child with T1

I often get this when my bloodsugar is high... if this is the cause then you can increase overnight insulin dosage (Long acting)

    A REAL Cure for Diabetes

I don't think type 2 is a lifestyle 'choice' anymore than anorexia is.... nobody would choose to be a diabetic. It may be relevant to diet at times, but that doesn't make it the person's responsibility. I'm a type 1, but this kind of ignorance frustrates me.

    Insulin Pump

Basically it gives you a tiny amount of insulin every few mins as a background dose (You programme this yourself; it will change depending on how much insulin you need at different times of the day and normally requires a bit of trial and error) Then, every time you have a meal, you will carb...

Needing to control all aspects of my life

I am pretty sure that I don't have aspergers syndrome, although I s'pose everyone is on the autistic spectrum... When you say 'other personality types' could you give an example that might comply with my personality? Thank you as well :)

    Best ways to keep control

Thank you :) I'm on a pump at the moment, I always seem to go low when I check, and because I have seisures associated with low blood sugars, I panick and so would rather be high... have you got any suggestions about how to gradually decrease my bloodsugars without going low? :)

Needing to control all aspects of my life

Because of the lack of control in my life up until this point regarding my t1 diabetes, I have found that recently I have become obsessively controlling in most aspects of my life, for example I will not eat food unless I have seen it being prepared, I need to do things my way in terms of their...

    Meeting similar minds

Beth, aged 16, I'm looking to meet some new people who understand diabetes rather than the ignorant sods at my school, been a diabetic since I was 3, on a pump for 2 years, and I like cats and Quentin Tarantino! Basically looking to make new friends, please message!

    Best ways to keep control

I'm a 16 year old female t1, I've been diabetic from the age of three. My parents raised me with a more free attitude, therefore my hba1c is rarely below 8.5, which is incredibly frustrating. Can anyone recommend the best methods of keeping control of my diabetes? I think the main problem is not...

    Mental breakdowns

That sounds really horrible for you! As a diabetic of 13 years, my control isn't the best - the fact that your bs seems to be below 9 a fair amount of the time is a good sign especially since you haven't been diagnosed that long... keep positive and ask for the help you need to keep it in...

Cant controll my actions when in 'hypo'?

I am also in school (age 15, nearly 16) & act really weird when hypo.. I tend to be more chatty & hyper, I also suddenly want to do everything and start running round trying to organise things and get everything done, which of course makes everything worse aha... Your story sounds really similar...

    Diabetes and alcohol

The subject is self explanatory really - I'm 15, going to a house party soon and I'm not sure how much I can drink I have moderate control over my diabetes but I don't drink very often (the occasional low % drink, you get the picture) So my question is: How much is it safe for me to drink...

    Dilema!

Hba1c has dropped from 9.6 to 7.2!! This was because my parents and I would consisantly argue about my diabetes, so I asked them not to get involved at all because I felt I could do it better on my own. this was a couple of years ago. My levels prove this. But now they want to become part of it...

    Dealing with emotions of diabetes???

I've had type 1 since I was 3, and recently I've just go so angry and upset about it all, my best advice is to just accept it. It's a bit like an injury. YES it will stop you doing things YES it might be painful, but it's not going to stop you doing everything. It doesn't need to rule your life...

    What is type 1.5?

Sorry to be so ignorant, I have type 1, and I'm not really sure what type 1.5 is, I just want to better understand it! Thanks Beth x

    Does the insulin pump work

I got a pump last year, it's brilliant and I would really encourage it, especially if your hba1c is high. Facts: -The tube inside you is noticable when you're in a swimming costume/topless/whatever. No escaping that, but you can go back to injections on holidays if you're concerned about that...

Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pump?

Re: Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pum I changed to a pump last year. There are benifits of both, but I would say the main reason I prefer pump is because when it's working out your dosage it takes into account previous dosages, and when you have the bs metor, you don't...

I can't control my diabetes at all :(

Thanks you everyone for the advice!! & just to clarify, I do have a checker, just not the one which goes with my pump x I'll phone the diabetes clinic on Monday and try to get something sorted out x Beth

I can't control my diabetes at all :(

I'm 15 with type 1 diabetes, (insulin pump) and I can't control my diabetes. My parents have always brought me up to focus on living life to the full more than controlling my diabetes so my hba1c has been up in aound the 9s which is aweful, sometimes higher. My parents are more concerned about...
