Type 1 Diabetes & Weight Loss

I really struggle to lose weight and sometimes I think to myself just stop taking insulin and start eating mars bars and it will soon shift! I would never do it as I know how dangerous and stupid that would be but I do understand how some young girls go down that road. Lorna

Type 1 Diabetes & Weight Loss

I think a lot of the weight loss must be due to dehydration then?

    I am getting a pump!!

Saw my specialist today and he has said I should be on a pump to help with my morning highs! :) Overall he said my control was excellent, I have been doing a very comprehensive diary for the last few weeks. For some reason on a Saturday my levels rise. I could understand this if I did a...

Type 1 Diabetes & Weight Loss

also I suppose you were severely dehydrated when your levels were sky high so once you started retaining the fluids as you are supposed too you would have gained some weight

Type 1 Diabetes & Weight Loss

I think there must be a problem with one of the sets of scales! 2 stone in a week just can't be right! The carbs in the food in the hospital would have been matched by the insulin you were given. I need to lose a lot of weight and I am seeing the consultant tomorrow, I am hoping to go on a...

    What's the lowest you've been?

My lowest was 1.2 and I had to have help. Recently my meter was playing up and was giving me really low readings of 0.8. I telephoned the careline and had a really hard time trying to get it through to them that the meter was faulty and my level could not possibly be that low. She kept...

    Refridgeration

Following on from another post I made and the reply I got, thank you Juicyj :) My levemir is always kept in the fridge but not my Humulin S. I have 2 pens each with a vial, one of which I carry with me and the other is kept on the side in the kitchen, this one can easily be put in the fridge...

HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M STARTING TO HYPO?

If you are not taking any medication then I think it is unlikely that you will experience hypos, but I could be wrong! Lorna

    High levels!

So last night before going to bed my level was 7.1 and at 3am this morning it was 7. When I got up to feed the dogs at 6 it had shot up to 14.2, I always take my first dose at this time as if I wait my levels go sky high, so I took my usual 24 units of Levemir and I took 22 HumulinS, this...

    Good old days?

My mum got the gun for myself and my brother (he was diagnosed 5 weeks after me) and I still have the scars to prove it. If you didn't have the syringe in the correct position the whole of the needle and the top of the syringe could end up embedded in you, it had a lot of force behind it!

    Good old days?

I am seeing a hospital consultant next week for the first time in years next Friday so I have been keeping a glucose and carb portion diary for the past couple of weeks so that he can have an overview of how I am doing. I always count carbs but I usually do it in my head and I haven’t kept a...

Did any of you type 1s have a virus before you got diabetes?

Re: Did any of you type 1s have a virus before you got diabe I was too young to remember, 1975, but my brother, 3 years older, got it 2 months after I did. Apparently there was a large rise in cases of Juvenile diabetes in the summer of 1975 and they say it was because of a virus

    How many tests a day?

Just spoken to my DNA, she has changed my prescription to 200 per month. She also told me to stop splitting my Levemir in 3 and just to split it in 2 as this may help with the overnight swings, we will see. I am seeing consultant next month and we are going to discuss pump therapy

    Beating insulin injections.

As a Type 1 diabetic (since 1975) I find your post deeply offensive and misguided. Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disease and has nothing to do with the mind!! You are Type 2 which is obvious from the medication you have been prescribed

    How many tests a day?

I know this has been asked before, but I am currently trying to get my repeat prescription increased from 150 strips per month to 250 I am a Type 1 (since 1975) with Stage 4 CKD. I currently do approx 8/10 tests a day. My renal consultant wants me to keep good control, I drive and DVLA say I...

    Humulin S v Novarapid

I am currently on Humulin S and Levermir, I notice that most users of Levemir use Novarapid as their bolus? Can someone explain to me, in simple terms :) , the difference between the 2? Lorna
