    Cure

Thank you both for your comments. I am despairing though ... I have tried to restrict my carbs, but still get bad results, and am now on two oral medications and insulin night and morning. I really can't face protein for breakfast, but everything else sends my BS through the roof - porridge...

    Cure

Does anyone know where things stand with regards to a "cure" for Type 2 diabetes? I am at my wits end trying to work out what is best for me to eat, and I keep falling off the wagon, then lie awake at 3 a.m. wondering what I am doing. So .......... how close are we to a cure for this miserable...

    Just so fed up

Thank you Catherine. I know that is what I should do, and I so want to, but life is just flying by ... I don't get home from work until late, by the time I've cooked and eaten, I'm almost ready for bed, then I don't sleep ... therefore I sleep in at the weekends, and then find myself rushing...

    Just so fed up

I am really finding it hard to keep my BS levels under control - all this checking, writing down what I eat, having to remember to check every two hours ... I have a very stressful, busy job which has got more stressful recently, and I am finding juggling both the diabetes and the job so...

    Can you "diffuse" carbs?

So how do people feel about the GL index (or even the GI index) - do you think that this is a method of eating that would even out carb problems and therefore BS levels?

    Can you "diffuse" carbs?

Bl**dy difficult disease, this! I had pasta with sauce last week and my BS hardly rose at all. Does anyone have a surefire solution (probably impossible)?

    Can you "diffuse" carbs?

Porridge may be low GI, but it shot my carbs up to around 20.

    Can you "diffuse" carbs?

I'm just back from my diabetes doc, having a long chat about carbs, and how I am finding my way but it's taking a long time. My doctor is of the opinion that as long as carbs make up around a quarter of each meal, your BS levels shouldn't rise that much. She says they only shoot up if the...

    Frustrated

Trying to find an alternative to meat and egg protein for breakfast, I thought I'd try Special K Protein Plus with skimmed milk and Splenda this morning (this particular cereal is marketed as having 9 carbs per serving). Two hours later I checked my BS, and they were 19.0. Any idea why?

    Breakfast smoothie

I am trying to avoid full fat as I need to lose a lot of weight. Would there be a lot of carbs in a tablespoon of protein powder and lecithin? There doesn't seem to be any carb information on the boxes (I live in Switzerland - very pretty, but a bit behind the times!)

    Breakfast smoothie

Hi - wonder if someone can help. I thought I'd found an alternative to protein for my breakfast - a healthy smoothie, which was quick and ideal. However, it pushed my BS way up. It contained low sugar yogourt drink, strawberries, protein powder and lecithin. What could have pushed my BS up...

    Guidance appreciated!

Hi saz. Yes you are right - I started an extremely low carb diet on Monday, and despite my doctor saying that my BS levels would go down slowly, they shot down to levels I haven't had for five years. I was worried enough to add some more carbs to my diet so to avoid any hypos. Could you...

    Guidance appreciated!

OK, so I know to go low carb, I am armed with my Collins Gem carb counter, I am taking my insulin and my oral meds, but I am still not sure exactly what I'm doing. I want to get to the stage where my BS levels are within the right range, and generally even. Without becoming obsessive (or do we...

    Fergus's bread recipe

Can someone point me in the direction of Fergus's bread recipe please, and if possible let me know where I can get the ingredients on-line (I live in Switzerland and will have to order them). Many thanks.

    Daily carb limit

Cally, you really sound as if you have things under control. How do you know exactly how many carbs you have at each meal - is that just working things out over a long period of trial and error? And did you work out how much insulin you needed yourself, and if so, what criteria did you use to...

    Daily carb limit

Cally - why do you say you can't go any lower with your carbs?

    Daily carb limit

Thanks Dennis. I do love my food, and love carbs, but I am learning. It seems very daunting to look ahead at what's involved in working out what will eventually work for me, and any tips would help. BTW, my jaw dropped open at your revelation about the NHS leaflet!!!
