    metformin. can't do it anymore

Just changed over to Glucophage SR 500 mg (1 per day) from the dreaded 2 Metformin daily, after complaining to the DN about the nasty side effects I had to put up with for months. I think there is a marked improvement already in well being.

    Brown Rice...

I think I will ditch the brown rice all together and get the Basmati rice. Since I eat only little portions of rice (40 gr) once or twice a month, it should not be too bad. Thanks for all the input.

    Brown Rice...

Thanks for the replies. I think the best approach is to cook a batch, cool it and freeze it in portions as suggested. Plus, I think that the freezing will further "tenderize" the rice. Unfortunately, Tesco's in my town only has the one type brown rice. Maybe I need a closer look.

    Brown Rice...

I have switched to brown rice, because it is said to be better for diabetes, but I cannot get on with it. First of all, I have to cook it for a long time, like 50 minutes, and it is still feels like not cooked enough, and I do not like the texture and taste. How do you cook it...

    Sugar substitutes

There are a range of sugar substitutes in supermarkets, in powdered form, sold in jars, usually 75 gr. Prices differ, Tesco's own is £1.00, Canderel, Stevia, and others, a bit more expensive. Take your pick. They can be used by the spoonful, I use them in desserts, or can be used in baking...

How often do you test, which meter do you use?

Testing 6 times a day until there is a steady improvement in the BG levels. (type 2, recently diagnosed) I am having my first Hba1c test in 2 days time, cross fingers that it is coming down. I bought the Codefree meter as the strips are the cheapest available. Checking on the NHS charts...
