When you split the dose, how big do you make the gap?

Excellent question ! It is going to be hard to determine. It would depend on the meal - how much food - how much fat and protein slowing down carb ingestion - activity before and after the meal - and so on.

Type 1 Low Carb & Ketones - Is it safe?

From what I have researched and understand, it is ketones + high blood sugar that causes the danger, which is ketoacidosis, and not ketosis which is healthy. I too am type 1 and have found that the only way to stay off the rollercoaster of highs and lows is to low-carb. I suggest the Type 1...

    20 years of T1D

The future is not predictable, no matter what statistics suggest. You may (and likely) will live longer and better than many, many nondiabetics, especially if you are taking care of yourself.

    High numbers

If I were you, I would go to another doctor for a second opinion. Many people, myself included, were incorrectly diagnosed as Type 2 before getting reclassified as Type 1, and prescribed insulin which finally took down their blood numbers.

    Type One Diabetes and loneliness

Fortunately, I am a loner so loneliness is something I enjoy and seek out. I can totally relate to what you say re talking about diabetes to nondiabetics (including family). That's another reason participating in these forums is good.

    Lantus in the Vein, maybe?

Make sure when you are calculating correction doses to take into account how much fast-acting insulin you still have on board. This to avoid a hypo. Such as in a case when you are eating earlier and not all the fast-acting you took for the previous meal has been used, considering fast-acting...

    Understanding my bloid sugar readings

Your numbers look fine to me, but I am not a doctor. Someone will likely be along soon who can give you more help.

    Understanding my bloid sugar readings

Welcome to the forum. When are you taking your blood readings?

    Overnight Lantus

We are not allowed to give advice on this website; however to give an answer to your question, more needs to be known. How much Lantus do you take in total and how are you splitting it? The highs and lows may be caused by your fast-acting insulin. Are you on fixed doses or do you calculate...

    Lantus in the Vein, maybe?

I read that post and as a result I take half my basal in one spot and half in another spot on the other side of my body, just in case of hitting a vein, it would be for one of the half doses presumably. I still take it all at the same time though.

    Trouble injecting

If you have already tried your tummy, thighs, upper arms and but, then I'm not sure where else. Do you pinch when you inject? I'm very thin and I pinch which helps bunch up any flesh under the skin. Also, do you measure your blood sugar before injection and then 2 hours after eating the first...

    Mental health vs physical health

    Excellent point.

    Tell me it gets better..

Sorry to hear you feel so awful. Your body is adapting. As blood sugar lowers, various symptoms arise as you adjust. It does get better.

    Newly Diagnosed Type 1

When I go out I always take an apple with me in case I feel low. Type 1 gets easier to deal with as time goes on. One great thing about diabetes compared to other diseases is that there is something you can do about it. You can't control all the influences on blood sugar, but you can control...

    What a "high" feels like

Before diagnosis, I had all the symptoms listed above. These days since I began a low-carb diet (less than 50 carbs a day, usually less than 30 a day) my blood sugar is more predictable and doesn't spike and fall like it used to. If I do go above 10, I feel tired and enjoy a short nap, but...

    I can't do it anymore

4 units of insulin and just the meat inside the pies with a little gravy would make my bs dangerously plummet too within about 15 minutes of eating. When I realized my endo was not helpful and my appointments were less than 5 minutes, I started counting carbs and dosing the meal-time insulin...
