    How old is everyone

I'm rapidly approaching 64 and was diagnosed T1D on 3rd October 1968, so I've just served 50 years with no hope of remission! As I don't really remember life without diabetes it hasn't felt like a burden. HBA1C results normally 50-55. Happy days

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Where did you get the 'no added sugar' black forest gateau? If it's home made would you share the recipe?

    DISCRIMINATION AT SCHOOL

Slayer, having read your posts you sound really fed up with life at the academy? I would resign immediately and start to feel good about yourself. My T1 daughter was in a similar position - dreadfully unhappy. I didn't want her to resign but, she choose to and, hey presto my old daughter...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.2 this morning, which means a small slice of fried brown bread (something of a treat for me in the morning) and scambled egg. Happy days!

    Type 2 Sharps Box Disposal

SRCL telephone number is 03332404400. It's straight forward. Phone them and arrange a pickup of the full box and they leave you an empty one.

    Pride comes before a fall...

If you haven't tried Jamesons I would highly recommend it. I drink it neat, really is delicious.

Travelling Abroad For The First Time Since Diagnosis

I've travelled all over the Europe and US/Canada. I always keep my medication in a rucksack that I keep with me - never put your insulin in the hold of plane. I've never used frio pouches although I suspect its good advice to do so. I have a letter from my GP that is now nearly 20 years old...

How can I sweeten my coffee?

I agree Alexandra. However, I have struggled to find I used 'Boots' saccharine tablets for years. However, not been able to find saccharines anywhere locally so I've resorted to 'slimmer' tablets which have not affected by BS or caused any other issues.

    Lipohypertrophy

HI Zinadane. I've been T1 for nearly 50 years. In my teenage years my Mum used to inject in my upper arms and later my wife took over the duty injecting in the same place. After approx. 20 years I was told to stop using those areas as I had serious lumps on my outer arms and the insulin no...

    Help With Sweeteners Please

I use (Boots) saccharins in tea/coffee (3). I also use them in some other foods, e.g. pancakes, I melt them in a little hot water before adding to the pancake mix. They are not for everybody, but my wife (non-diabetic) also uses them and finds them better than sugar.

    Type 1 Bad Habits

I tend to overeat to correct low blood sugar - it's almost like having a treat not that I would do that on purpose!

    Type 1 Sharp box

I think it's area dependent. Our Borough Council waste recycling team in South Wales will fine people putting sharps in the general waste. I acquired my sharps box (FOC) from a company called SRCL Clinical Waste Removal, they can be found on the web. I phone them periodically and they give me...

    Dribbling embarrassment

I've had the problem, just as you've described, for approx. 3 years. My prostrate was checked and found to be OK. It seems this is a side affect of diabetes, so I was told. Best solution is to sit down when going to the loo. For whatever reason that works for me. When having to stand-up to...

Freestyle Lite BG Test Strips Surplus to Needs

This is my first post even though I have been Type 1 for 50 years. However, I do read the posts quite often and I'm still learning about this condition. I often see questions about restrictions that are placed on the number test strips that are allowed to patients and with this in mind I...
