    Confused Newbie

Hi and welcome. Yes, that was a big BS drop. As you have excess weight T2 is likely due to insulin resistance but T1 is always possible so keep that in the background. You need to keep the carbs in your diet down and although exercise is important, the right diet will trump that. The blurry eyes...

    QRISK3 algorithm

In my opinion these QRisk scorers are best ignored as some the algorithmic make-up is questionable.

    Ceracare

Hi. Sadly there is no miracle cure for diabetes. If T2 then keep the carbs down and have certain meds from the GP if needed.

incident with diabeties and volunteering :(

Hi, how sad. Try to explain that being hypo means you lose control of your brain power and can be aggressive without being aware. Onylyonce in 2 years implies you aren't making an issue of being T1. I hope they see sense.

Difference between unsweetened, sugar free and no added sugar

Hi, Yes, you only need to look at the back of the food packaging and find Total Carbs. If there is no packaging then Google what is typical Carbs for that food. It's not about Sugar but Total Carbs.

    Continuous blood sugar reading devices

I've been using the Libre 2 for 3 months now and only had one replaced due to bas readings. All the others have been fine. I can only assume that just as some others find they fall off (due to skin surface problems?) some others may have technical problems with the interstitial fluid measure...

    Curious

Hi again. It may be you could stop the Empagflozin after discussion with the GP. Having a lower carb diet may be just as important in controlling BS as the tablet? Do look at other proteins than red meat; there are many to choose from. Also going low carb may also make you able to stop the...

Opinions on when to start metformin

That HBA1C level is pretty good and a lot better than mine! Medication may not be needed but normally Metformin can be started as any time as it's very safe with few side effects.

    Curious

Hi. Reducing the carbs in your diet will be very important. In what way are you intolerant of meat and fat? Having proteins and fats of some kind is very important with a low carb diet. The proteins can be plant-based and there is a wide range of fats to potentially choose from to avoid the...

Diagnosed a week ago, where to start.

The Dr obviously knows little about diabetes - not uncommon. You can eat Fat as it isn't a problem either for BS or weight gain. The Dr ought to know that. The problem food is the Carbs so keep them down. I would suggest avoiding any sweets even low sugar ones. You need to re-train the body to...

    Fatty liver

The usual advice if you are not already doing so is to have a low-carb diet. Have you had a full lipids screen with your blood tests to check your cholesterol ratios?

    Libre 2 Grrrr

I've now had around eight Libre 2s with one being replaced by Abbot due to erratic readings but all have been fine with Alarms working well. Both Libre 1 & 2 are known to be inaccurate for very low and high readings.

Hubby new to diabetes type 2

Hi, your understanding is right and your husband should be able to get his figures right with keto diet. Don't worry about fasting test results as the Dawn Phenomenon is normal. I can see from my Libre 2 CGM that my BS rises shortly before dawn for that reason and I ignore it.

    Freestyle Libre 2

Hi. I've been using a Libre 2 now for a few months and wouldn't now be without it. I use the under arm and swap the arm every 2 weeks. I try to place it to avoid it resting on the edge of the car seat etc. Some people find it falls off but my sensors stick like glue (literally) and are never...

    First Review in three years

Hi. Many nurses don't know how to do a BP measure. They hardly allow you to sit down before starting. They talk to you during the measure and often only do one test. I always use my home meter, do it properly and my DN accepts my readings.

Blood sugar below 48 but several diabetes symptoms

Hi. Actually there isn't any such thing as pre-diabetes if you think about it. Diabetes is a spectrum and the level of 48 is arbitrary but not a bad choice. At your level of HBA1C it's unlikely that the numbness is due to high blood sugar (diabetes) as your level is near normal. I suspect there...

Oh the types they are a changing

An interesting post. I don't fit the normal pattern so question, surprisingly, the C-Peptide test. I've always been slim, my gym measures show body and visceral fat in a good range. I use fairly high amounts of Basal/Bolus and couldn't live without insulin as my BS rockets up if I don't inject...

    Type 2 Statins

Only take statins if your lipids profile i.e. LDL, HDL ratios etc show you need them. Ask what they are or ask for a full lipids panel at the next blood test. Statins aren't sweets. If you are gaining weight with Gliclazide you need to reduce your carb intake which should be kept down anyway as...

    3tablets

The Gliptin family of drugs (DPP4 inhibitors) suppress an enzyme that in turn suppresses insulin production which means your insulin is produced for longer. It reduces BS spikes. I would query the last post about this drug as I believe it works almost immediately. I was on Sitagliptin for a few...
