    spikes

It would Ewelina, I am constantly told by HCPs that the HBA1C is the most important not what is happening on an hour by hour basis. But a lot of folk on here religously try to stick to low levels 2 hours post prandial and I am trying to find the evidence as to why that minimises complications...

    Januvia really works for me!

I have been taking it since last summer and it helped to lower me back down to 6.4 my best ever A1C. Interesting that it is at its most potent after about 4 hours, I wonder if I should shift to taking it at lunchtime then so it is working strongly for my evening meal? Ali

    Bariatric consultation

I went for a consultation last week to discuss bariatric surgery with the local team of experts. I am pretty borderline for consideration with a BMI of just under 39 but of course have a co-morbidity, being diabetes. I already attempt to follow a calorie and carb controlled diet and even when...

    spikes

Nobody? I am surprised because so many of us aim to keep below the 7.8 etc but whenever I talk to HCPs they are all quite blase about spikes and more concerned about HBA1Cs. Therefore I was looking for some links that back up the reasons to control spikes. I would thefore be grateful if...

    IS IGNORANCE BLISS ?

Most people I talk to say exactly the same. No idea about carbs and never check after meals. My Dad is heading towards 89, lives with us, totally non compliant but sailed through thyroid removal 12 months ago. No wound issues at all but does have neuropathy. He doesn't give a monkeys what he...

    for the females

The IUS is the same as the Mirena I believe. I had an IUD and was unfortunate enough to have a ruptured ectopic as a result. I now take Cerazette mini pill as I didn't get on with the Mirena. Ali

It never ceases to amaze me...

Lois that is bad, very bad. Sorry to hear you were treated like that, poor you. Hope you recovered well once back home with Mum. Hana I don't get their reluctance to enjoy other snacks, why are sweet things the be all and end all at biz meetings? Sigh. Ali

    CNOGA

Hi Larry, at over £600 it is still way beyond what most of us can afford to spend on such an item. When a normal meter is either free or a maximum of £15 at a chemists, and to date I have had no problem getting consumables from my GP, it is just not feasible. I do totally understand that items...

It never ceases to amaze me...

No they put Dad on a sliding scale for his thyroid op last year and he is Type 2 so that seems the norm. You would think they should all be well briefed with the number of diabetics around nowadays. Ali

It never ceases to amaze me...

Ha ha I had to laugh when they gave me white toast with no jam because I wasn't allowed jam..... but the white bread was ok! I was in too much of a haze from the anaesthetic to do anything about it, I just ate it!! I have a running battle with my 88 year old 24/7 grazing father as it is, but...

It never ceases to amaze me...

I had knee surgery this week, I checked my bloods on waking and they re-checked on arrival for surgery. Because of the diabetes I was golden patient so no hanging around, straight in. On the way to the theatre the nurse with me said that my blood sugar reading was probably not very accurate...

    operation and high sugar?

I had knee surgery on Tuesday with an HBA1C of 6.4 and that morning's reading being 5.4. The leaflet says above 15 may delay your surgery. They checked my levels on arrival and I think sometime whilst asleep, but that was it! Last week I had a biopsy under local, checked on arrival then not...

    DENIAL OF DIAGNOSIS UNTIL RECENTLY

Well done, no idea why urine sticks are being used though with blood sugar meters being readily available other than cost. If your PCT won't fund strips get an SD codefree off of the net. Urine sticks very imprecise. I believe they only register above 10 by which time you are doing damage to...
