    Coffee & Diabetes

I am a complete coffee head, managing 2-3 every morning. It does not affect my blood glucose unless I take it with cow's milk. I usually drink it black, but occasionally with a tsp of cream. Bulletproof coffee is fine too.

Type 2 Statins - GP insisting Simvastatin 20mg

Problem is, if your prescription goes straight to your pharmacy, you are then greeted with a massive great bag of statins next time you go to collect the prescription you actually wanted. After this happened the second time the pharmacist sympathised and put a note against my record, so...

    Prescription denied

I doubt the number of times the OP tests would go down if he was self-funding as his primary consideration is maintaining good blood glucose control. I self-fund and I test A LOT for that very reason. If my LHA was willing to finance my strips I'd be delighted.

    100% Cocoa Chocolate

Tried some Montezuma 100% with almonds last night. The almonds in it went some way to reducing the bitter taste. It was more edible and enjoyable than the Hotel Chocolat 100% little chocolate bars I tried the other year, which must have been targeting true chocolate connoisseurs. I ended up...

    Pancake Day

Pancake Day was a little frustrating for us. My husband had created the perfect low-carb pancakes a few months ago using a combination of coconut and almond flour. Trouble was, he had forgotten exactly what had gone into them and we ended up with a tatty mess that looked more like dogs' ears...

    What about this?

The price puts me off more than anything. I'm also a recent convert to Fathead Pizza, which is delicious and costs a fraction of the price

what are most hard things ? living with diabetes?

The only really low points are the times when I have to lay down the law to the bossier staff at the medical practice I'm registered at. So long as I can get to see the one doctor at the practice I like and who is impressed with what I am doing, it's OK. I'm also getting one of the nurses...

Lindt Excellence 90% Cocoa Chocolate = Amazing

@Goonergal - I'm coming round to yours - the protein ball idea sounds amazing. If you don't have a microwave, you can melt chocolate in a bowl that can be balanced on the top of a saucepan of simmering water.

    Doing the Newcastle

@AlcalaBob - you have done so well! And what impressive results! Well done for persevering. I stopped after two and a half weeks - I wasn't feeling great - so I decided it wasn't for me and returned to LCHF.

How Long Undergoing Low Carb Diet For Diabetes

Having tried the Newcastle Diet (I lasted just over two weeks before I decided it wasn't for me) after over a year of low-carbing, I'm firmly back on the low-carb track. Low-carbing is easy to sustain and my overall health is far better. My doctor was impressed with my far lower Hba1c and...

    Newcastle - Week 2, Day 3

@ickihun - I don't, and got out of the habit of eating breakfast when I went low carb (I guess a bulletproof coffee doesn't count). As I'm in fully fledged experimental stage with ND, maybe it wouldn't hurt to start breakfasting again and see what happens.

    Statins

After weighing up the options and hearing the complaints of family and friends who take them, I decided not to.

    Newcastle - Week 2, Day 3

I think I'm getting into my stride now. Swapping the shakes for "real" small meals seems to be doing the trick. I don't feel so hungry all the time and no longer feel cold, and my energy levels are good. I haven't weighed myself since Monday but my clothes feel looser. Bloods are good although...

Type 2 - the lazy illness.

Yep, stupid and thoughtless. I gave my boss an earful a few months after I was diagnosed when he started slagging off the T2Ds on that awful Panorama programme on the "diabetes epidemic". And I still haven't told my mum I'm T2D.

    Newcastle - Week 2, Day 1

Weight: 85.7kg (Starting weight: 87.7kg) FBG: 6.0 (FBG: 7.3) Fat: 44.2% (45%) 1.5cm off waist So far so good, and I'm delighted with the figures above. Over the weekend I cut down to one shake a day and ate "real" food, so my mood was a lot better. One thing that helped was pooling most of my...

    Newcastle - day 6

Not dropping out but tweaking. Having said that, I did crumble and have a shake at lunchtime and an hour later my bloods were only 6.5. I also managed a long walk this afternoon and feel OK. Tonight’s dinner is a roasted aubergine drizzled with a little olive oil and a side of steamed veg.

    Newcastle - day 6

Weight: 86.5kg; FBG: 6.7 Got home from work ravenously hungry and inhaled a load of tofu and veg (stir-fried in plenty of olive oil) and felt immediately better. I have plenty of energy but feel cold a lot of the time. My resting heart rate has dropped to around 58 (normally around 62). I’m...
